OK, time to lighten the mood. Here's an idea for Jono's Next Project.
Step 1: Find a Kingswood panel van.
Step 2: Spray paint it pink.
Step 3: Fit it with hydraulics & loudspeakers.
Step 4: At the next 'March for Democracy', play "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" over the loudspeakers. -

While there's funnier stuff than Jay Pryor's interview, it was even funnier seeing Paul Henry effectively hoist on his own petard.
The whole point of the stunt, I believe, was to illustrate the exploitation of gullibility and increasingly narrow attention spans, and to culture-jam the junk food news barons out of their complacency. Up until that moment, there was a sense of powerlessness among us.

Yeah, wonder if anyone would be seeing the meta-satirical performative humour if Williams really was some right-wing loon pretending to be gay, or a feminist or a greenie.
I think the fundamental difference is more between lampooning the 'strong', and lampooning the 'weak'. In this world, Paul Henry counts as 'very strong'.

Quite Ali G. Despite the bluster of the official media release that Mr Henry spotted the fake during the interview, I reckon he got well punked.
Or Borat or Bruno for that matter.
Or maybe even the Sodomobile. ;D
I'm starting to feel a sense of hope.

Apart from that, it's all the crowd control and enforcement that send the costs up.
Which was a sizeable factor in Montreal 76's cost overruns, but an understandable one after the tragedies of the Munich '72 Massacre.

Here's a wee game. Compare the Herald headline with the Stuff one. Spot the difference?
Poetic justice!
This comment on Stuff.co.nz summed it up quite nicely...
H or P #66: Not sure why he wasted his time with the H in Wanganui when P was a bigger problem.

In Rio they're able to have both their Carnival and their national sport.
But I do think RWC 2011 could potentially end up as our Montreal '76. An ego trip that took 30 years to break even.
