  • Island Life: The Guilt of Clayton Weatherston,

But if you want to talk about truly dangerous, could Nigel Latta -- who has precisely NO clinical relationship with Weatherston -- please sit down, and take a long pull on his fuckupachino.

I would have pictured him to be more of a Latte drinker.

Islander -Thanks for the reference to that site. I couldn't find the autochthony bit but what a lovely blogsite. Has links to my favourite History Workshop Journal and also I noted Giovanni's Bat Bean Beam with a beautiful recent post on his father.

Thank you Hilary, you're very kind. And Reading the Maps really is consistently, almost infurtiatingly brilliant - here's the link to that post about the autochtons.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

I agree it's against the ethos of the site. You like somebody's comment, you can always point it out through them whatchamacallem, words. And if you disagree, ditto. Generally I find that keeping up with the forums I like takes quite enough time without the added task of registering a binary like and dislike of comments, optional as it may be.

    Some form of peer rating

    Nightmare!

Agree, I miss Usenet but not quite that much.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

All the spellcheckers I've encountered are monolingual and that's just wrong. I'd love it if they were able to accommodate more than one language at any one time, for reasons of obviousness.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

Lance's complaint is blocked in China.

    Yeah, sorry, I did that.

On a different topic: earlier today on this very thread I unaccountably attributed the poem M'illumino d'immenso to Giosuè Carducci, whereas of course it's by Giuseppe Ungaretti. The shame! But it's a testimony to the class of the PAS readership that somebody pointed this out to me discreetly via email rather than exposing me to the public humiliation that I most assuredly deserved.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

Will the new version of the site give me the ability to go back in time and slap my cursor away from the Post Reply button?

    That'd come in really handy.

Heh... You don't know how many times I have longed retroactively for that feature. Also regarding an email I sent last night that I spent most of today formulating an apology for. Stupid SMTP should have filters for that kind of thing.

__ Don't make me get out the Italian stereotype bingo card, 'kay?__

How could you, what with your arms waving around like that and all...

I would have replied to your insensitive slur sooner but it's Friday so I was busy voting in a new government.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

I've had various things linked in Hard News posts and seen a spike in my web stats, but a few weeks ago Giovanni made a comment here with a link to something I'd written and it gave me a similarly big jump in numbers. Really cool!

Let's try this again. Robyn amongst other things is the author of my favourite ever one page blog.

Isn't she is the adult film actress who entered Italian politics?
