Matt P:
This article infuriated me. Illustrates perfectly the entitlement mindset of some landlords, and also fucked me off because that's some serious coin that could've been put into something productive (as in produces goods or services for resale, Keir, before we get into that argument again) instead of locked away for the benefit of a sole person's retirement.
Again, that sense of entitlement justifies my comparison with the Common Agricultural Policy. And not a single mention of paying any tax either.

I liken the PIF to the French Common Agricultural Policy lobby - everyone knows the status quo can't go on much longer, but no-one's got the cojones to challenge them when they go DEFCON 1.

I'm more than happy to see a close questioning of the media, their tactics, their ethics and professionalism and I'd wondered what the motive of this story really was... (train-wreck journalism is an obscene indulgence)
Is said media really Too Big to Fail? If they're an Abrams tank, then the Press Council is a Supersoaker.

I reckon a giant model of a robotic spider attacking the sign would add some variety.

I received a death threat for wearing a t-shirt that said "Bathurst Skyline", too. Keeping Geelong going is important to Ozzies, and if they have to drive Holdens and Fords, they think it's worth the price.
Ironically, Nissan had factories in Oz, up until about 1994. Chrysler bailed out of Oz in the 1980s & sold its factories to Mitsi, which itself has recently jumped ship, leaving just Ford, Holden and Toyota.

I'm not convinced that the 'former poor' are more likely to show empathy to the 'currently poor', though. Particularly not the 'formerly poor, now fantastically wealthy'. Their own rise from poverty is likely to have given them the impression that everyone could do the same, if they just followed the same philosophy. Often, they despise people who failed to rise all the more because they don't feel as inclined to patronize them as the 'never was poor' sect.
It's called kicking away the ladder of opportunity.
Assuming that the government doesn't put in some GST compensation for benefit rates. Beneficiaries should come out even, unless the government are right bastards.
Most likely people to be hurt by the GST increase are lower income earners, particularly those that don't earn WFF.
Rearrange the following words: Poll. Thatcher. Margaret. Tax.

If anything, down here in the Capital it's been borderline thermal shutdown lately. At least right now as I type this.

Further brands of right wing thought tend towards the idea that wealth should automatically entitle its holders to greater social and political influence, either subtly (via improved living conditions over the poor) or overtly (via increased visibility and weighting of political opinions). The logical conclusion leads towards a kind of meritocracy where wealth indicates an individual's merit.
Michael Carroll, anybody?

I wasn't yet in secondary school in 1991, when I saw the previews on TV for "The Big One". Basically, the guy who correctly predicted the San Fran earthquake in the late 1980s predicted that the Big One would strike Wellington in early December that year. There was a mad rush to prepare for the worst. We're still waiting...
Must pay a visit to the Film Archive.

Its the most stupidist sized piece of paper ever invented.
Letter.
Too wide, too short. ...for anything.
Metric System FTW.
