The BDO line-up by and large leaves me cold, as does a lot of the Laneways line-up, other than the 3Ds and Dirty Three.
Surely they could've got a far more exciting, relevant and substantial headliner than the clapped-out remains of Echo and the Bunnymen ? -
Any chance of an appearance in Dunedin, David ?

The obvious argument against name supression is the "all tarred with the same brush" one.
When I was trying to identify the person concerned, a few other feasible names were also mentioned. These people should not have to put up with derogatory innuendo about themselves, I reckon.
I also thought it was amusing that Key said the person who told him didn't work in politics (or words to that effect). I expect it was as simple as asking his teenage daughter, for him to find out.

What they want is a change to the law that brought about CIRs in the first place, to make CIRs binding
This is the bit that, to me, shows how loony Colin Craig and his mates are.
As a basic example, if I suggested a referendum to abolish all taxation I'd get huge support for it. Given that taxation funds a lot of government activities, those activities would no longer be funded and the community would suffer. Yet the gov't would be obliged to slash funding if Colin Craig had his way.
That, people, is why they should not be binding.

I remember when Rory Fallon was born. The Fallons lived about 10 houses up the street from us during Gisborne City's early-mid '80s glory days.
I was about 13, 14 or so and walking up the street I bumped into Sean Fallon, then aged about six. "Our Rory is born!" he exclaimed.Nice goal yesterday "Our Rory".

Regarding Monteith's and NZ bands, I remember back in '93 when the 3Ds were recording The Venus Trail at Dominic Stones' big flat (an old, ex-Masonic temple) in downtown Dunedin and they stocked up on so much Monteith's there was literally none available in the central city bottle stores.
One of my flatmates visited them and told me there were so many empties everywhere that "you could see more bottles than floor".
When the album was released, Mac's were given a special thank you in the credits and on the promo tour they made sure to do a gig in Nelson.

Top stuff, David ! Those are lovely songs. Neat band name, too. Apparently the L.E.D.s are in the middle of putting together their third album, so Blair's obviously on a role creatively.

Regarding Labour and Goff still being low in the polls, well, that's just how things go. National was low for years after Clark was elected, Labour was low for the first year of Bolger, National was low for Lange's first term.
Labour just need to be patient and wait it out, simple as that. Sooner or later, the public will tire of National, some Nat MP will make a big, unpalatable boo-boo, but who knows when.
As an aside, very interesting observation by Braunias yesterday regarding chewing the fat with civil servants : "a particular figure of contempt and loathing was foreign affairs minister Murray McCully".
