I love Outrageous Fortune - but this feels like a wake too soon
Nah... I've done q quick mental audit of shows that were retrospectively diminished by hanging around long past their creative expiry date -- a long and depressing list.
My money's on Loretta, and Hayden "Bloody" Peters. Angry and rough, somewhere highly uncomfortable (perhaps in a Mini).
Spite fucking is always hot. Sad but true. Now that I think of it, the kinkiest thing they could do with Loretta is turn her into her mother, in a good way.

A bit like Willie Apiata running for Mayor and the Herald referring to him as a pig-hunting farmer.
To be fair, I don't think Corporal Apiata would be standing for any political office while serving in the SAS and if he chose to do so in civilian life, he'd be firmly discouraged from making any military service a high profile feature of any campaign. Don't think that's a bad thing either.

Not sure about Housemaid - a Korean thriller - was gripping until the end when it went all The Omen like, but crikey - those Koreans are a bit raunchy.
Oh yes... but it's been really interesting seeing how South Korean film-makers like Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook (in much the same way as J-Horror in the 90's and Hong Kong before that) are obviously aware of Euro-American genre and arthouse cinema, but give it a distinctive spin.

I'm sure there are lots of women who'd take Van over Jethro. (Not literally.) Women who like caring, sensitive men. Nice guys, who'd do anything for you. I didn't nearly fall asleep just typing that or anything.
I'm always going to heart Munter (sorry JeVan shippers) -- though my fantasy life is complicated by knowing Tammy Davis' RW partner. Ainsley Gardner would cut my face off and use it as an oven mitt if I ever sleazed on her baby-daddy. :)

For all the sex and the swearing and the crime and the stupidity and the morally dodgy stuff, Outrageous Fortune was always, at heart a very conservative show, exploring family values.
It's also a show that managed, at it's considerable best, to skip along a very tricky tonal high wire: It could shift effortlessly between broad comedy (that was never mean-spirited or condescending) and high tragedy. Everyone got their moments of wonky grace, courage and kindness.

Oh yes, as we speak, I'm reducing my rapturous paean to Claudia Cardinale's expressive cleavage to slightly less fetishistic proportions.

If Pete Bethune is a bit of a dick, that's nothing compared with the pro-whaling protesters calling for him to be 'hanged'. They come across as the hyper-nationalist types who think General Tojo was innocent.
They may well be, though I don't think you can fault the Japanese police for not dispersing protestors with water cannons and tear gas. Can you?
It's interesting to speculate on what would have occurred if Bethune had been an Australian citizen.
Well, he's white, media-friendly and middle-class so I'm sure the Schapelle Corby Double Standard would have applied. (If you're wondering what I'm going on about, tell me who Andrew Chan is without hitting Google.)

The Ghost Writer? Forget it, Jake, it's not Chinatown, but a faint echo that ultimately collapses under its own solemn absurdity. Don't worry, I'm not going to spoil a damn thing because the last half hour is so damn stupid it really had to be seen unaware to be appreciated.
Still, to be fair KIm ("Lawrence of My Labia") Cattrell and Olivia Williams inject a little life into proceedings as Alistair Campbell with tits and a Cherie Blair analogue with battery acid for blood. There should be an set of Oscars for best performance that was a damn sight better than it really needed to be.

And if you want to talk about drug abuse that should be a career-killer how about the euphoniously named noob Tory MP Mark Reckless -- who was too fuck-faced to make a Budget vote.

Cant argue with that now, can you? :)
Sure I can, but I have a big bag of coffee to earn. And twelve thousand words on why I want to have the brains of Sergio Leone and Sylvian Chomet in jars on the mantle isn't quite going to do it. Radical squee-ectomy ho!
