RichO:
The "fix" for that is increased authoritarianism - ban the drugs the underclass have problems with, lock people up for wearing patches, sterilise the poor.
And increasingly, video games.

Looks like it's not a tease. Multiple returned stories about how SST is facing the loss of its status as a charity, because it's deemed to be primarily a political activism body.

But things could be much much worse.I don't feel the marchers represented anything much at all other than expressing their freedom to protest, an inherently democratic privilege.
In this case, don't you mean the freedom to make a complete dick of oneself? There's a dividing line somewhere.

I recall the satirical website Righttosmack.co.nz, sadly now offline, having something written up about "geological projectiles" being a guaranteed solution for "what to do with a Rebellious Son".

Would homosexual law reform have survived a CIR? Probably not. 20+ years on, Sodom & Gomorrah are still intact.

A broad-church approach to grievance and the vilification of elected leaders are also, of course, hallmarks of the "tea party" movement in the US. That group has repeatedly crossed the boundaries of human decency with comparisons of an elected US president with Hitler, and even demeaned the images of Dachau.
And not to mention wielding loaded assault rifles at said tea party rallies. Why fight them when they can fight themselves?
And they want dictatorship? Then a visit to Belarus or Myanmar might give them something to think about. If they even think at all.

Hey Ben, you'd be surprised at the number of wives/girlfriends that really enjoy WoW. Our guild is dominated by women :).
I know lots of folks that play with their kids as well and both parent and child enjoy the game. It's much more about entertainment than number of kills.
A techie who temped with us not too long ago definitely falls into that category. She was out of the Warcraft scene for a while but recently came back to it boots & all.
And my brother-in-law & his son are right into it too. So one can slay demons and ghouls and still have a life.

My primary char is geared for multi-purpose roles (DPS/tank/PvE/PvP), so that she doesn't have to switch armour sets all the time. If she's wearing damage-dealing gear, I put on defence enchantments such as extra stamina. If she's kitted out in tanking gear, I use attack enchantments such as strength & agility.Nearing the magic number now...

The other reason the analogy is good is that tanking really is wearying and wearing. Tanks have to find a balance. Sometimes that means taking a different role in the next fight and sometimes it means doing something light and fluffy like loving squirrels.
For that purpose there's always dual talent speccing. Russell seems able to take plenty of damage as well as doling it out.
Ben, Bart: what realm/s do you play on? Here's mine for everyone's enlightenment.

I put the main reason for the relengthening down to fashion. The boys don't want to run about in short shorts anymore.
Maybe this is the reason why...

Why is it always nth gen white New Zealanders? Why not nth gen Chinese New Zealander or whatever?
Like the author of this post as it's being typed.

i think in a not too distant future it will be possible to cherry pick the best things from various cultures and technologies. yep we'll take the wheel, the internet, the good medicine and throwaway the guns, the drugs and the capitalist ideology but i reckon it's going to take an evolutionary step forward in consciousness to do it.
If NZ absolutely had to look to a bigger nation for ideas, Canada is probably the best of a bad lot, as least as far as Jon Stewart is concerned. I personally think Vancouver's closer to us than Sydney.

Absolutely. I remember listening to Key's two-handed-head-clutcher of a victory speech last year and thinking the same thing. "Nuh Zillun's got food and it's got scenery!" Great. Nice one, John. You do realize that, in the long term, those two things are largely incompatible? The more dairying there is, the more forest gets cleared, the more effluent and run-off there is in the waterways, and the uglier things get. Eventually, it's going to be so obvious even the tourists will notice.
Mr Key is resuming free trade talks with the States. I wonder if he'd still be interested if it meant complying with the Waxman-Markey Act?
