FIRST! Woohoo.
I'm struck by the speed with which the FB site achieved 10,000 members.
It says quite alot about our collective cultural values - Radio NZ is seen by many people as the 'last' cultural bastion where our collective views, voices and sense of us as Kiwis can be heard and explored.
I don't think that the National Party realise this - I think they just applied their ideological blinkers to RadioNZ - but I would hope that they are taking notice of the passion with which many people are 'defending' RadioNZ.

It's better seen in the reddy/orangey colours - it's quite striking and volcanic looking - which avoids comparisons such as you make - with frayed knots, or something being unravelled... though, given Wodder's, the description is apt.
The volcanic coloured one is here - at the right hand side.

I quite like this logo. It's already been created, and is quite strong visually. I don't think we need a competition - just use this one.
I haven't seen it in blue before, only in the volcanic reddy/orangey colours - which I think is pretty cool.

The overweening impression I get from Russell's concerns and commentary about Heather Roy's so called 'Step - downwards - change' is that it all seems one great big ideological wank off performed by ACT.

Wearing my Elected Representative hat on:
Russell, your fears are real. Other commentators here have put in their own 2 cents regarding the 'nature' of the reforms and yes, their fears are very real.
Whipping off said hat.

Sigh. Why isn't Webstock held in Auckland?
Not that I'm interested in going, it's just that I know the creative energy that emanates from these things just courses down city streets, and if Auckland needs anything, it's a hefty dose of creativity right now...

@Haydn
Just wait for the 3D footage :)
I think your desire for such entertainment has come to fruition (no pun intended).

I was working with a PostGrad Indian guy and the concept of personal space is quite different.
I felt like he draped himself over my shoulderComing back from Hong Kong the Indian guy in the seat next to me positively draped himself over me - well, his forearm was on top of my forarm on seat-rest between us - not at all pleasant.
After I did that NZ thing where one quietly shifts oneself to remove onself from the 'nearness' of the arm, to which he shifted ever more so onto my arm I was forced to directly tell him that "In NZ we don't invade other's personal space like you are currently doing!". I was mortified at what I was saying but hells bells did I want this for the next 12 hours? No.
And I wondered for the rest of the flight if he was gay. Sigh. Cultural mores.
@pollywog
are gay men anti women as much as gay women are (from personal observation) anti men and hence more sexist than straight men in that they see women as competetion ?
No. As the token fag (along with Craig), no. Some older gays have quite a miisogynistic attitude that stems from the cultural era in which they grew up and came out as gay. But women as competition? No.

grasp thumbs in the classic soul brother grip, raise your interlocked hands to your chests as some sort of buffer. then pull each other close while crossing over slightly and let your opposing shoulders touch ,then pull away while holding each others gaze.
for extra emphasis, reach around with your spare arm and hug them at the same time. aint nuthin complicated bout it:)
With my gay friends we often do the French 'kiss kiss' thing - shake hands, lean forward and kiss your friend on their left cheek, then pull back. For extra emphasis kiss the right cheek in quick succession.
-
Hadyn - apologies for mis-spelling your name!
Well I guess we'll have to leave numbers behind and errr bond - but in that manly way - over a beer and marvel at the wonderous rugby playing and not give a toss whether the man is straight, gay or something else entirely different. Which I think essentially is your point.
Of course I know SFA about rugby so I'll be oggling the legs... but I don't think I can do that for 80 mins without getting insanely bored.
I'm curious about the hohohohomophobia tic though. My friends and I have a running joke about Heheheheheroin which was a quote from a "drugs are bad" education video we watched. You didn't see the same one did you?
No. Though this tic stems from the late 80s so perhaps someone picked up the heheheheheroin and modified it - assuming that the 'drugs are bad' education video was a late 80s thing.
