  • Field Theory: I'm ever so pissed.,

Watching "live" I thought Read did nothing wrong - "hey, if Habana wants to run straight into ~100kg of brick shithouse that's his beef"
But on the replay, Barnes was r...rrrrr... he was r... right (excuse me, I have to go cut myself)

Possibly but it was after the whistle and Habana was being a bit of a knob running off down field and trying a chip over Read. So I assume Read was just trying to tell him that the whistle had blown. The hurt look on Habana's face was totally worth it.

  • Field Theory: Testosterone and the…,

I can't find the graph that I saw a while ago (Hadyn might have linked to it?), but it showed how her results have improved drastically over the past year.

    This one? (part way down)

  • Field Theory: How to make a derby,

Oo yeah at the Richter City practice last night there were some BIG blocks and some panties thrown (yes actually). And it was just the bloody practice!

Skate of Emergency is going to be huge. Though possibly not as violent as Christchurch: headlocks, fights and players being ejected! Oh my!

Men can't match women in some sporting events.

Just curious, what sports are these?

Whoa, where did that info come from?

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) have (according to the news reports) found her to be intersex.

I'm not familiar with the IAAF or how they operate - are they likely to have falsified test results for some reason?

The IAAF will release it's findings to Semenya first and in November, until such time all reports are unsubstantiated leaks. Moreover the IAAF has policies on intersex athletes and she may have one of the many conditions allowable under those rules (as discussed in the original post)

But on the subject of Caster Semenya - there is really no way she can compete against women - as she is not a woman. And she doesn't have a hormone imbalance or any kind of disorder - she is not female...

Whoa, where did that info come from?

I'm really fucking angry at the Herald for repeating what seem to be incredibly false claims made in the Telegraph, but hiding behind "reports". Fucking hacks.

Science of Sport as always should be the first port of call on this (a sports scientist AND a South African): on the "leaks" and on Semenya and testosterone.

  • Field Theory: Things we can learn from Americans,

For every Dennis Rodman there's a Michael Jordan.

It's weird that I think that Rodman would be the lesser jerk of those two.

Basketballers tend to be the ones using internet video services for what they think are good ideas.

  • Southerly: The Secret Poetry of Economists,

A reply in way of a story
As I walked through the countryside I met two men walking in the opposite direction. One was as lightness and gaiety, the other looked upon his companion with disdain.

I greeted the angrier of the two gentlemen, as the other had suddenly become incredibly interested in the dappling of light as it passed through the leaves of an aging oak tree. He returned my hello and we began a conversation. He was an economist, and knowing nothing of the subject I asked him what it was like.

"Fucking", he replied to my slight astonishment. "Fucking and fucking and fucking and fucking and poetry".

I was clearly taken back so he sought to clarify.

"A tax rebate, for example, can be described like this..." he closed his eyes and drew breath
    "I return home
after broken pens and infinite meetings
after email failures and idiot clients
    after soul-breaking and cubicle hatred
    I return home
    Where my lover greets me
    and kisses me hard.
We pull each other to the ground
and fuck in the doorway where
the neighbours can hear her climax"

He opened his eyes and looked at me awkwardly, "it goes on like that". I smiled to reassure him.

I gestured towards the other man who smiled and waved at us. "Is he an Economist too?"

"Oh God no! He's a mathematician and doesn't get it at all. They think it's all about love"
