  • Hard News: A business most feral,

What on earth is John Ansell on about? As far as I can tell I've never even mentioned him by name -- and even on the two occasions I expressed some distaste for the iwi-versus-kiwi billboards, my language wasn't exactly angry. How bizarre.

I thought he was trying to take the piss out of you actually. Sort of feigning having to steel himself about comments on your blog. That's exactly what he's trying to achieve isn't it ?

  • Hard News: What I'd really like to know,

Bollocks. I/S how happy do you think you would feel if your salary was cut in half simply because it didn't rain for four months? Nothing to do with your job performance, or market conditions, but simply too much sunshine?

Excuse my ignorance of how this works but my experience, admittedly only as a consumer, is that when an agriculture sector (take your pick which flavour crops, livestock whatever) has a "bad season" due to weather the price to me goes up correspondingly so presumably the farmer's income hasn't "halved" ?

Isn't weather part of market conditions??

  • Hard News: What the people want to hear,

Key has given a variety of explanations for the comment -- he can't recall, it never happened, he was talking about Australian wages, it was just a joke -- and questioned the professionalism of the reporter (or "young guy taking notes") who was present.

I thought he was having a dig at the way Labour explain things...

Really? I'd have thought the fact that he drew applause from both Matthew Hooton and Laila Harre on the radio this morning would suggest otherwise

I didn't hear him this morning but was thinking more about the Hawkes Bay debacle his "I haven't made my mind up, I'm keeping an open mind" line sounded a bit hollow.

I think Helen might have given Labour's chances the kiss of death this morning with her 'we have work to do' comment. That's virtually an admission of defeat isn't it ? I see the Herald are running with it as the headline. already.

  • Hard News: What the people want to hear,

"Damn the actual legislative program they'll put in place or their policy intent - let's just let them cage-fight it over pointless and irrelevant soundbites"

It's the world we live in isn't it ? Bit like the way TV has gone with reality programming, bugger the content it's the mindless entertainment we're after

The media have been using donation and loan as being the same thing

Actually, I thought the media had been pretty good at making it clear that it's the foregone interest that constitutes the donation not the loan per se.

If Cunliffes' handling of health so far is the best example of Vision and Talent they can come up with they're in huge trouble.

...and that is? I ,( as a layperson/voter), watch parliament on tv and am still waiting to hear Nationals " message".

It doesn't matter though does it now, National don't have to say or do anything, best thing they could do is keep they're heads down and watch Labour self destruct trying to achieve the impossible in October.

If they come back from where they are now, it will be bigger than Lazarus !

  • Hard News: What to make of the spray,

The MoH played down potential side effects of MeNZB too much, even if they were unlikely.

I think even that is a little euphamistic Russell. I think the MoH and the medical profession intentionally hid the potentially side effects of MeNZB (albeit unlikely). We had a right to know.

My 8 month old ended up in Starship for a week and 2 transfusions with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiopathic_thrombocytopenic_purpura a week after her MeNZB.

Followed by months of blood testing and checkups.

And whilst it is supposedley very rare, according to the local plunket nurse, she's aware of at least 2 cases in Westmere alone.

ACC finally acknowledged and accepted it was caused by the MeNZB but I don't think the MoH is collecting any sort of accurate statistics on adverse reactions to MeNZB so how would they really know ?

Oh .. on the breast police issue, at Birthcare we had to sign an "offical" waiver form acknolwedging the "dangers" of formula feeding when we had to give topups as well !

They also refuse to tell you what brand of formula they use so as not to be seen promoting one over the other.
