I’m wondering how that should work in an online forum.
Let’s say it’s effectively a ‘conversation’ and someone raises something libellous (and incorrect – I think truth is always a defence?)
Others in the conversation argue with this statement, convincing the original libeller (and any reasonable reader) they were wrong (like this could actually happen on the internet!? But it’s kind’ve what’s happened here.)
Without the original libellous statement, the whole conversation is rendered meaningless, and somehow there’s less enlightenment all round.
I’d like to think a judge would see the thread/conversation/discussion as a whole, and accept that people in discourse get things wrong, get heated, make mistakes, sometimes boast or talk shit, and that's a part of free speech.
It definitely shouldn’t put the owner of the house in the dock. I hope it’s not here :) but I hope we get some case-law on this soon. It’s an issue that won’t go away, but right now nobody seems to know where the boundaries lie. -

Democracy is painfully inefficient, and you could lose, which is intolerable when you know you're always right.
If I was any more furious about this, I'd combust. Time for a rates revolt? "No taxation without representation" has worked before, I hear :) -

Wiki sez Freeview has 30 channels. Must be some space in there somewhere :)
I know the current NZ on Air charter wouldn't allow it, but I'm not alone in thinking it's about time the charter was re-conceptualised.
There does have to be a balance between 'meritorious but dull' and 'popular but frivolous'. But it feels as if NZ on Air has been skewed commercial for too long. <departs ranting into the distance and not before time> -

the wider skill set and roles of TV/film production right from IP through to post. Funding shows that have a wider industry involvement will bear more fruit for eveyone IMO

I reckon you’re spot-on here. If one of these contrived competitions insisted all the songs be originals, I might be swayed. But IMO NZ on Air shouldn’t be ratings driven; it should fund on potential contribution to NZ culture – even if only half-a-dozen people see it.
TV ‘ratings’ are a one-off randomised (what’s on the other channel?) metric anyway; they’re for advertisers and NZ on Air shouldn’t jump on board.
On-line distribution is fast changing the ‘one-night only’ broadcaster-as-gatekeeper model. A classic that gets missed, that misses its time, can be re-discovered. Over time, a niche drama can find its niche audience. -
Love the idea of a native corridor. Some fruit and nut trees along edges -permaculture -could work too. Driving through today it's also striking how high the river level is (or the land has sunk.) Flooding will be an issue so a wide swathe of kahikatea and swampy flax might be a useful buffer.

It was grand to meet you and Greg and Russell. I felt strangely shy.
Or maybe it’s not strange :) (Always been a bit shy). I’d love to have taken photos, but it wasn’t the right moment.
There were a few old mates, but also a lot of people in the room I’ve known as faces and seen play music or in an audience or round Christchurch but have never bowled up and jumped into a good conversation with.
I regret that. But maybe there was always an odd stand-offishness-cum-shyness that’s a part of the ‘scene that wasn’t’.I’d never thought the late 70s/early 80s music days in Chch were in any way noteworthy.

Good talk. Thanks Russell! And it brought people out – a room full of faces that told stories. Plenty of strange in that theatre – if someone could get people to cough them up, you’d have a decent sackful of Chch strange stories :)
