  • Speaker: The Democracy-Free Zone, in reply to Kumara Republic,

What if, in 2016, the sacked ECan councillors are voted back in?

Nah, won't happen. The government is so full of praise for the efficiency of the government-appointed ECan council that I expect changes to the RMA to extend the model nationwide.

  • Speaker: Friday Music Guest:…,

Coincidentally, last night Module played the soundtrack of Shatter by Sidhe live in Wellington.

    Starts at about 56:30

360 degree panorama from the Mount Victoria lookout last weekend. iPod Touch with Photosynth. The stitching isn't quite perfect; it was rather windy.

  • Hard News: Judge Harvey: My part in his downfall,

Would it have been alright if Judge Harvey held such personal feelings about the US and copyright while working on the KimDotCom case, but did not disclose them?

I believe these types of presentations also tend to get re-used a lot for different conferences, each with their different emphasis. So you just throw absolutely everything in there, and update it with new results as they come in. And if someone asks a question about some obscure detail of the research, you can be pretty sure you have the answer somewhere in the slides.

I was more upset whenever the livestream cut to showing crowd shots instead of the presentation. Show me the error bars, not the glowing backs of 200 Macbooks dammit!

  • Legal Beagle: The law may be that stupid,

Is the wording of the Act such that it actually forbids the candidate from declaring the name and address of a donor against a donation, when the candidate suspects or believes but does not know?

When the law says "know", does it mean in the same sense as "beyond reasonable doubt" in a court of law, or is it more absolute?

  • Hard News: Finally, the Teapot Tape?, in reply to Steve Barnes,

When we first saw pictures the "device" was in a black bag on the table. When you grab a bag containing a recording device it can be clearly heard on the recording, not so in this case.

At about 7:50 it sounds like the recorder is being put in a bug. Possibly the pictures were from after that time?

  • Hard News: Locking in the Future,

Conspiracy theory: having a large media company like MediaWorks fail would scare off potential investors in TVNZ. The government demonstrating that they'll cover your back when things get a bit tight on the other hand...

  • Hard News: Hip in the Square, in reply to Christopher Dempsey,

I'm looking for a 3D model of the city that can cope with complexity.

You could give these guys a call. There is a lot in common between how sound bounces around and how light bounces around.

How the rest of the world views the USA under Obama: "Your President is ace, but WTF is wrong with you people!"
