Seems to me the characters to date look like they come from where TINML is really filmed, namely Omaha. But maybe I'm being unkind.
(Takapuna does have quite a few old cottages, Frank Sargeson's for one iirc)

Good point Sacha. I guess I just take it for granted that people understand the social (and environmental) good of incentivising bus travel.
Kyle, even if they did buy their own bus I think they'd have to have a certain number of passengers (2 or 3 depending) to qualify ;-)

It's also worth noting that the public/private split in individual unions is not as pronounced as it once was.
E.g. NZEI Te Riu Roa (who I work for when I'm not on leave) is well-known as "the primary teachers' union" but it has several thousand members who are working outside the state sector, e.g. for early childhood services (none of which are run directly by the state). The PSA itself has members in some areas which used to be part of the public service but aren't any longer, I think PSIS might be one of those, and other services that have been contracted out like catering in hospitals. Often (with the PSA anyway) there is a private sector union working on the same site and with the same occupational group, and they might even (shock horror) bargain the collective agreement together, as a MUCA (Multi-Union Collective Agreement).
So it's pretty false to paint unions as Public Only or Private Only nowadays.
On the bus lanes issue, I would be quite keen to see some breakdown of the 41,000 tickets over time. My suspicion is that the number of tickets has reduced, as the public has been educated about not driving in bus lanes. Purely anecdotal, and with no scientific merit, my observation of the bus lanes along Sandringham Rd is that I've seen very little of the usual warden with camera action this year.

Pretty sure I saw an old person (Pakeha man), but good point nonetheless.
We don't really know what kind of person Alec (or whatever his name is) is yet, he could be working class after all? Maybe that's the whole premise - it's a re-education camp!

Even if the 250,000 figure was the public sector unions combined it's way too high (or maybe the 300,000 is too low?) I wonder if Trotter was the source for the contention in last week's The Insider column in the Herald's Friday business mag that the unions were split over all this? Of course they weren't and the CTU affiliates are now mounting a united campaign against Key's proposals, under Kelly's leadership.

Apparently TINML rated very well. Although interesting to note they lost around a quarter of the audience in the second half...

Thank ye kindly Craig, shall keep my eyes out.

Oh do tell where you got the DVDs Craig!

I found TINML very like The Cult in terms of how it looked. Which I acknowledge is pretty weird given that the former is set in a highly manicured setting (I hear they filmed a lot at Omaha?) and the latter involved a lot of bush.
It was also incredibly derivative of The Prisoner, and that's fine by me cos I was a big fan of that show. Omaha is no Portmeirion though ;-)

I too have seen Ros Vallings and strongly recommend her. If you are outside Akl you could ring one of these doctors and ask them to recommend someone in your area, if you can manage to do the toll call? Good luck and best wishes.
