Hard News: Narcissists and bullies, in reply to
I can’t talk about it, but let me just say what I know of what’s going on in this crowd of kids is really getting to me. I can only guess at the pressure that’s gone on the victims not to give statements.
I don't know the exact situation but I can imagine the huge pressure on victims to stay silent when there is the possibility that a cache of images of them is being held by the perpetrators. Knowing one of the participant's father is a policeman would probably further discourage coming forward and I'm sure threats would be made in the schoolyard. If they do make a complaint then there could be up to two years of continued harassment, fear, and character assassination during the trial and no certainty of a conviction. Witness protection could be an option, but why should a family be forced to flee from their community for something they haven't done?
Our justice system seems unable to work properly in these situations. -

Well Russell (or whoever is in charge here) is welcome to edit posts as they see fit.
I'm sure Russell has better things to do with his time. Editing posts also opens him up to cries of "censorship" and "lefties can't handle the truth" from the odd troll who pokes their head up here and reports back to their followers.
Rather than relying on others to do it before you, engaging brain before posting is encouraged. -
Cracker: Lundy and Me., in reply to
I’m really uncomfortable with people judging someone for not crying (or not crying “properly”) at a funeral.
I feel exactly the same. It's really creepy when people start to judge others by the way they behave in grief.

Thank you Russell for creating and curating this space where all voices can be heard and discussions had without descending into the sort of playground name calling that seems to be the norm on most other forums.
I have not met anyone who regularly posts here personally but I feel I know many of them and think of them as part of my extended family.

wanton character assassination.
The guy wrote some vile things in a review of a 16 year old female performer. He's being called a dick for doing so and rightly so. The reaction here strong because it is a forum where women feel free to express an opinion without being abused.

He was angry and frustrated, and in a moment of vulnerability wrote something that he now regrets.
I guess a public apology will be forthcoming then?

Reading this thread reminds me of this Tom Robinson track.

It seems like there are plenty of these types still out there. -
Southerly: My Life As a Palm Tree, in reply to
You’ve just reminded me of Kiwi Ranch, near Hell’s Gate outside Rotorua.
I spent a May school holiday at Kiwi Ranch in the mid 70's. It was getting a bit run down by then, half the activities were broken or out of bounds including the flying fox and monorail. The helter skelter was still open but had jagged rusty holes in the side that could have sliced off fingers, I think they might have closed it half way through the week. My main memories are of huge disappointment from the adventures promised in glossy brochure and intense boredom.

That was a masterclass in handling what could have been a defining episode in Key's career. Obviously on the back foot from Campbell Live's tour of the country and constant replay of his smug replies to Rebecca Wright's questions, Key fronted the issue and never got flustered. Campbell couldn't find any chink in his defenses and his glib explanations sounded perfectly plausible at first hearing. All Key had to do was last the round without losing his cool and he would be the victor. He looked and sounded like a statesman at the top of his game. It was a warning to contenders for his job that they will have to be able to match or better that performance to topple him in the opinion polls. Unfortunately, nice chap as he is, David Shearer doesn't seem to possess the skills needed to play at this level.
