Everything about the story stank to high heaven: the dresses were purchased for her, and had a book value of less then $800. Not only that, but she had a letter authorising her taking the clothing in lieu of overtime payment through the (notoriously overtime heavy) general election of 2014.

So, when you’ve already like, reported the death toll, y’know… earlier, and then you want to report it again. Is that when it becomes a told?

In 2014 the OIO approved the purchase of some sensitive New Zealand land which was funded via one of Mossack Fonseca’s operations. The government is able to overturn such arrangements under the “good character” requirements of OIO applications.
While the OIO is checking to see how many other applications were linked to Mossack Fonseca, keep in mind that they’re only the world’s fourth largest tax evasion company and the scale of the problem is likely to be bigger. Much bigger.
Quoting figures for the last four years, Grant Robertson accused the government of complacency.
He said foreign investment from the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands together, both known as tax havens, was more than $4 billion. That was almost seven times more than China, Germany, and France combined.
John Key “did not know which country the bid came from” and Bill English says he’s “not particularly concerned” about the Cayman Island numbers.
Of course he’s not. Dodgy John the money trader hasn’t given up his dream of making New Zealand the Jersey of the South Pacific. Key and English cannot be unaware of the scale of NZ’s involvement in international tax evasion and/or money laundering… after all, they’ve been encouraging it for years.
It’s not surprising then that they’d rather the public be kept in the dark over such matters.

Another perfect example of sentencing unfairness.
A Nelson father and son were caught with 562 plants over two houses. That's a substantial operation in anyone's book. However the judge decided that there was "no evidence of a financial motive for either defendant" and sentenced them to home detention. The story doesn't mention the length of the sentence.
Meanwhile Kelly van Gaalen languishes in prison.

Hangry... something which at first appeared to be another front page Herald typo. However it was quoting a Katy Bradford tweet, so I guess it's applicable to the story.
And what does the Herald do when they have hardly any information at all? Repeat what you have... three times! And leave in the "Tweet embed" code for good measure. Sheeesh!

We have John Key's word on this.
Prime Minister John Key said he sought an assurance from his lawyer that he was not linked to Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the heart of the Panama Papers scandal.
As Mossack Fonseca is only the world's fourth biggest offshore tax haven specialist, Key's lawyer presumably told him exactly which offshore outfit he is linked to. And provided there's nothing shady about the arrangement, the Prime Minister should have no trouble naming the company and their jurisdiction.
