Rampant speculation follows...
How about a moratorium on this sort of blather? Human beings have complex minds which cannot be reduced to a few uninformed platitudes; we none of us know the subject of this speculation and we are not psychiatrists. Besides, it is distasteful.

I should hope not. It is a fine old English tradition, to send your son to the school which you hated. It is character-building.

I have always understood the best defence against action for defamation to be having the money to pay for expensive lawyers. It is not an area of the Law which is predicated on fairness.

Already Susan Devoy has come out to say she was misled about giving her character reference.

On Checkpoint, Mary Wilson spoke to Stuart Grieve QC, Veitch's lawyer. He spoke of his side's thwarted desire for a defended trial, saying that they wanted a "rumble" and that there would have been "blood on the carpet."
Given the nature of his client's offence, his choice of language was at best insensitive. At worst, one wonders whether Grieve is as much a thug as Veitch.
