Polity: Leaving only footprints, in reply to
Another interesting thing about the Swiss photo I posted is that most of the land up there is privately (or communally) owned farmland used for summer grazing and as a ski resort in winter. The farmers accept that there is public access over the land (I believe the lift company pays for the land its lifts are on but not the runs down). It's very different from the post-colonial attitude that "this land is mine and nobody else can go on it".

charging a fee to international visitors.
Why would you do that whilst at the same time pouring massive subsidies into the tourist industry (casinos, airport runways, sporting events)?

It’s the Cabin Mt Fort above Verbier, Switzerland.

It’s called “hiking” or “walking” outside NZ. People do it a lot, probably more than NZers, if the numbers on a sunny day (or even a crap day – if you only hike on nice days in the UK, you don’t hike at all) in Snowdonia or the Lake District are anything to go by.
In other countries, it can be super civilised, as shown in this picture of some “randonneurs” enjoying a nice drink and snack at 2400m:

Well, you can have the greatest leader in the world as captain, but it's down to the dude at the wicket to make the runs and the bowler to bowl the other guy out.
I know the fuhrerprinzip is massively important to many people, especially those who've had the full force of the NZ edudoctrination system applied to them: milk monitor, prefect, head of school, dux (whatever that is), team leader at McDonalds. And for the many middle class people with no actual skills, a job cajoling or bullying people into doing what the next one up in the hierarchy wants is the only way to make cash for the mortgage, the BMW and the holiday in Queensland.
Me, I'm with Edward Abbey:

The removal of the special zone for schools and re-zoning them residential is also concerning as it allows the MoE to sell schools that are deemed to be "surplus to requirements"
Or make schools like Auckland Grammar sell some of their playing fields. Why should the taxpayer carry the substantial opportunity cost of them having acres of hugely valuable playing fields in the middle of the city?

Right-wing commentator attacks left in right-wing magazine. Weather up next.
Why give such people credence, or enable them by kicking their ball on. Better to just ignore.
