I havent eaten any reptiles...but the frog-legs I've eaten were only vaguely reminiscent of chicken...
And yep, tarantulas (and all spiders) are members of the great order Arthropoda(shrimps/slaters/sawflies et al) so could shatter-
I tried to find the only funny (to me) Garfield cartoon, but cant: it roughly goes like this- Jon is waxing eloquent of a butterfly, "Ah the pretty butterfly! Delicate! Emphemeral! Beautiful! What more can you say?" Garfield: "Tastes like chicken."

Kindred spirit Jackie - I've never eaten margarine in my life. I use olive oil & rice bran oil mainly in cooking, but it's gotta be butter on my bread & new potatoes!

We went through 2 of those double-half loaves a day. The rule was - you never let the younger kids pick the loaves up (the eldest 2, me & the sister next to me, instituted this rule.) Because the front piecies (Scots for a sandwich but transferred to the 'tempting piece' as Hilary
says) belonged to us...in return, we never ate enough to make a hollow in each half loaf...I know it lacked all kinds of goodies, but fresh from the bakers, with butter & my mother's raspberry jam - or marmite - whoa, was it good!

I have a well-repressed desire to try frizzled tarantula (one of the very few edible spiders) - well repressed because I think them rather noble beasts, and the chances of getting one to frizzle in ANZ are -very very very remote. Reported to Taste Like Chicken.

I like spiders- I've been fascinated by them since I was a kid. My claim to fame is the lbig new tetragnathoid I discovered (new to science that is.) The site of discovery was my kitchen table - the thing was quite dead unfortunately. There is a large population of spiders living both inside the house and in the bush (I dont really have a garden) surrounding it.
Spider bites are not really on the increase: there is a strain of hysteria centring on the Oz-originated white-tail (which very rarely bites humans - it's preferred tucker is other spiders.) That said, people can react idiosyncratically to spider venom. And both the katipo and the Oz redback (which has been found in several places here) deserve respect i.e. dont play with them. Both of them are retiring little animals and dont want to play with you.
