Apparently using a phone or computer while watching the cricket is considered courtsiding by NZ Police, courtsiding being letting people know what is happening in a match so they can place bets second earlier than those watching it on tv.
Courtsiding is not illegal in NZ but it is against the terms and conditions of ticket sales.
So, when have the Police been empowered to uphold terms and conditions in a private contract?.
Just another example of corrupt practice by Police for the benefit of a private company.
When will we make a stand against the erosion of our rights for the sake of business?.

It is rather sad that this is the only, albeit clever and amusing, thread pertaining to politics on Public Address at this time. A time when so much is happening, appearing in even the MSM, that we would, in the past, have been so vociferous in discussing.
The Sabin affair, the Sky City rort, State House sell-off, the rise of Andrew Little and the rebirth of the Labour movement. So much to discuss, so little said.

On the Sabin affair I came across this.

On 30 January NBR reported in Sabin resigns from Parliament:

NBR ONLINE first began researching the National MP in September.

In December, Fairfax media revealed Waitemata police were investigating an assault complaint against Mr Sabin.

It is understood the National Party was first made aware of an assault complaint against National MP Mike Sabin weeks before the 2011 election but chose not to ask Mr Sabin to withdraw his candidacy.

    Paywalled for you convenience.

Is that a simple typo or does it really go back that far?
The question should be asked in Parliament... "When did the police initiate their investigation into Mike Sabin?"
If the 2011 date is, in fact, correct, then surely the PM would have known years ago.

We are now reliably informed by that most reliable of jokers, Steven Joyce, that the Government will not be coughing up Corporate Welfare for those poor undernourished folks at Sky City, they will just have to spend that $402,000,000 they said they will and we will just have to put up with an eyesore, to mach the existing eyesore that is their Casino and "entertainment" centre. Either that or we must put up with the three perfectly adequate convention centres we already have.

State Houses are not, apparently, assets, go figure. There is no reason for central, or even local Government to duck their responsibility to the Nations underprivileged, those same underprivileged that are growing in number under this ideologically crippled cohort of corrupt criminals, other than to line the pockets of those that already hold the bulk of the Nations wealth.

Are we going to sit back and stay quiet? are we going to go quietly into this dark self satisfied morass of middle class slumber? or are we going to get back on that once proud horse that was Public Address?

  • Hard News: The Sky is the limit, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

Despite what they say, the Convention Centre in Auckland must have already cost taxpayers money - ousting TVNZ from their building

As is the usual practice for these slithy toves that brown bag of cash will be on TVNZ's books as a loss, or profit depending on the use they want to put that transaction down to.
Profit= look what a great deal this is, wanna buy a tv company?
Loss= Look what a waste of money this tv company is, we must flick it off cheap.
Either way it was our bit of land those shysters have given to their mates.

  • Hard News: CWC 2015: Contains graphic horror, in reply to Ethan Tucker,

We are generally very lucky in NZ (and probably Australia too) with the quality of our sports camerawork - they really know their jobs and make it so much easier to enjoy matches, whatever the sport.

Not so with those Stadiums which we are told are a "Must Have".

The "quick guide" to what you can bring to international cricket this summer is:

You can take your own food into all venues as long as it is not commercially prepared (ie made by one of the hamburger chains, or pizza chains etc)
You can definitely take water in unopened plastic bottles of up to 750mls to all venues
You can take soft drinks in unopened plastic bottles of up to 750mls to all cricket venues EXCEPT Westpac Stadium*
You CAN'T take glass, alcohol, drinks in opened plastic bottles, commercially prepared food and a number of other items into venues.

According to Campell Live last night you are also not allowed a seat over 300mm in height or even a sun umbrella.
You can, however, take a cricket bat, go figure.
Better off at home with a big screen TV and yer Lion Red an' KFC eh?.

    * Westpac Stadium has restrictions that would make Kim Jong IL envious.

Jason Ede couldn't have wished for a more suitable successor. Who but the strong and almost silent Sooty could suggest such a perfect Party slogan, "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy!".
It encompasses all that is National and reminds us that all JK has to do is wave a magic wand and all things are possible, however unconventional that may seem it has been the hallmark of JK's career to date and may become the central convention for some years to come, a convention centre if you will.

All this, however may yet backfire on the PM if he were to withdraw his hand, bowing to internal and very public, pressure over the Sky City deal, his other proposed Black Flag operations and his support for IS a division of Rentokill (who, incidentally, provided school meals in the UK) and may help him rid us of those pesky people with headscarves that might upset the New World Order
Perhaps in light of these revelations we may yet hear the puppet of muppets wail the mournful cry of...
    "Bye bye everybody, bye bye"

  • Hard News: The Sky is the limit, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

Of SkyCity's $820m revenue last year $570m came from gambling and less than $200m was from non-gambling business.

Ahhh, here, that's the thing see....If we help Sky City to make more money out of non-gambling business then the percentage of profits from gambling goes down. Unless, of course, the convention center somehow, accidentally and in the most unlikely scenario, increases the profits of the casino by actually attracting overseas visitors.
Which, of course is not going to happen because...... erm.... OOOH LOOK.... New Flag......

The test is quite simple. Would the action being filmed and published be performed in public by a reasonable person who was aware of his/her actions, if not then we can safely assume that they had an expectation of privacy. The problem then is can a senior insurance manager be considered reasonable and that the setting of the sun is a force majeure.

    You mean You-Know-Who...

    Wicked Uncle Ernie?

Mike Sabin, smoke, mirrors and the tarring of an internationally renowned Kiwi born author, what was really behind it all?

All just a little too fucking convenient really, don’t you think? Anyway, just how was it that radio shock jock Sean Plunket, again so conveniently, came by his misinformation on Catton and then thought it a good idea to start a very public shit fight? And to think it all came about just before Mike Sabin’s rapid departure and an out of left field appearance of a never before heard of case involving yet another of those “Prominent New Zealanders”?

    The plot sickens.

  • Speaker: Why all the fuss over six trees?, in reply to James Littlewood*,

Leaving Grey Lynn at 5, it's not uncommon for traffic to be backed up hundreds of metres before the Bullock Track to the corner of St Lukes. By car, that can be a 30 minute wait.

So don't go that way then or go by bus or by bike
. The only problem with the Bullock track is you can't see the traffic until you're in it but if its five o'clock you can make a good guess its going to be there.
