  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

You can't really do much for people who are a bit timid. Besides its not something you get comfortable with until you've been doing it for a while. I remember the first times I posted in a forum and became a fully fledged loser. It would take ages to put out a well thought out, lengthy post because I was paranoid about what people would think (and still am, it's in my nature) but now they tend to roll out thick and fast like elephant turds.

It's a fine art getting your point across and not severely pissing anybody off at the same time and it can take freakin ages to get to that point (some never do). A bit of humbleness and self piss-taking helps.

But some people just like reading. Quite often I read through forums and that suits fine. There's no need to write to the author and tell him you thought his book was shit or tha bomb. And bare in mind that a lot of the viewing traffic will have come here by mistake (looking for porn), not be from NZ (and be looking for porn), not speak English (and be looking for porn), have no interest in what is being said (because they were looking for porn)and will never return (because they couldn't find any porn).

The culture of violence in sport is a multi dimensional issue (I'm not sure what exactly I mean by that).

Given that some sports are EXTREMELY physical in nature ie, union, league, ice hockey, american football to name a few the amount of full on violence is incredibly low. To watch men smash into each other continuously, filled with testosterone and then get up, walk away and at the end of the game shake hands and have a beer is a truly amazing human accomplishment in my opinion.

Yes, occasionally it blows up into punches or an "all in brawl" (often a handful of players with the majority trying to break it up), but they are the exception rather than the rule.

Sports have rules for such incidents and those players involved are usually removed from the field and often if its serious enough they are removed temporarily from the sport or permanently. It's not tolerated, and by and large participants don't get away with it. Unlike other places where similar incidents take place...

    Sport ain't all bad.

I am not getting otherwise involved with robbery debates *at all* but may I say how much I appreciate the responses of Sacha, Deborah, Jackie & others? And how much I really hope that robbery's penultimate phrase is a promise for this thread? Kia ora tatou-

The bolding of 'but' is mine. Sorry Islander, I couldn't resist, it seems appropriate for this thread. :)

My guess is that it was due to the public statements of regret afterwards that seemed so devoid of any … regret.

Well that’s the bit that got me anyway.

ditto. We even expect teenagers to own up to what they have done to all those affected at restorative meetings in schools.

We don't let them get away with walking sideways around what they did and kicking things off with "but...". So it's not unfair to expect a grown adult to own up unconditionally.

But I have faith that the court system will do it's job in this case. It better or things could really blow the f up.

He had a minor physcical altercation with Willie Lose at a radio sport christmas party. I forget if it was 2007 or 2006.

Leg Break will know, he can consult his scrapebook.

I think it was along the lines of them winding each other up and Veitch throwing one and running. Again somebody else can correct that but that was roughly how it was relayed at the time and how it appeared in the media the other day.

Steve and Steven, that was like pushing somebody out of the way to take the match winning catch and then fumbling it before hanging on.

    Still, a wins a win.

While we're on porn names mines Maggie Flanshaw. I guess I'm a cross dresser when in action.

Please ignore what I just wrote.

    Please.

Shep, Veitch is mortgaged up pretty hard going by an article in the DomPost the other day. $20,000 a month to make payments. He earnt 700,000 a year, minus tax and he would still have had plenty left over for trips to Fiji but could certainly not afford to lose all his jobs at once I would have thought.

This has wound up costing him a lot more than 150,000.
