  • Hard News: A thing that rarely ends well,

    Insider Outsider -
FWIW I work in education; my promotion was to a job that would in effect have doubled my salary and I have lived/worked in several English speaking countries across my career. Though me, her and new arrival are by no means rich, we do okay. Hence I looked for reasons other than money to go. I still feel I have a useful contribution to make to NZ with what I am doing. There are important differences between NZ and Australia that I value greatly. I make this point with the caveat that I and my partner made money overseas which was used to secure our modest comfort here (we own 80%) of our home. I hope this is of some help, if you want a more detailed dialogue just ping my email flag.

  • Hard News: Strange Southern Superman,

I confess to being amazed at how loony bile explosions get bigger. I always expect people to run out of hyperbolae(?) but they never do.

As an aside here's a shameful lesson in how nimbyism and affordable housing can really get out of hand: Lets go back to the 20th century to one of England’s most educated cities for the Cutteslowe walls incident. Yep they built a wall across a thoroughfare in order to keep the poor people out. What really gets to me is that the wall stood for more than 20 years. I understand now that certain parts of the council estate are derelict and in the process of being sold to a private developer.......

  • Random Play: An aerial ballet of steel…,

Interestingly both the bridge on the right and the Britannia bridge at Menai were both built by Robert Stephenson. I know which bridge I prefer.

I reckon build the glorious new bridge, but don't trash the old one, turn it into a destination, build apartments and markets and shops and stalls. No road access, only pedestrian.

Then you'd miss out on stuff like this.

Where else are people allowed to consume the product then decide not to pay?

Ahhhh the publishing industry where it is possible for me to create a piece of work, pay for it to be published/distributed and then pay again if I want to use it publicly, digitally or as a part of other work.
