  • Island Life: Rage against the machines,

Keeping with the bond theme - high powered laser. You might be able to get a university physics department to help out. You know, for science.

More feasibly, I bet a welding torch would do some nice damage.

Shit. I didn't know Finn at all but based solely on his opinions and the way he expressed him here I liked him. Condolences and thoughts out to his friends and family.

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Really? Got any evidence? Frankly I think that is a huge assumption. Did Fay Richwhite have such concern over rail? What about Alan Gibbs and Telecom?

Oh for sure, it's purely speculation on my part - but so is the assertion that there is no difference between NZ based or overseas investment. I just think it's a valid point that the airport is hugely important economically. Although you're probably right, it's unlikely such a macro view would be taken when considering the company bottom line.

  • OnPoint: AIA and Maori Seats,

Once an asset is privately owned, that elusive "rational" investor is going to do the same thing regardless of nationality.

Surely though a New Zealand based investor has more of a stake in the continuing economic prosperity of NZ as a whole, which can be affected by how the airport is run.

  • Island Life: More time with the family,

Re: the school holiday vs work holiday disparity, aren't there more options than just giving workers more holidays or kids more school? Something like providing extra stuff for kids that's fun and useful. Camps, trips, sports, holiday programmes etc.

A large part of the pro piracy argument has been majors are evil and have been ripping off customers etc.
you weighed in on that with they are inherently evil and didn't really go into details on your personal dealings with them.

Has anyone in this argument has advocated piracy? Or stated that majors are inherently evil? I haven't seen it except in your counter arguments. Everyone wants musicians to be rewarded Rob, we all recognise the moral dilemma there. We just disagree about the economics of restrictions on digital content. You seem to have a bit of a straw man factory going on here.

  • Southerly: Overheard on a Bus,

    How does everyone pronounce Subaru?

When I was young I only heard "Sue-bar-ru'. Now everyone seems to call it 'Sooba-roo'. Is one more correct from the Japanese?

Not having seen the Japanese version I would say that the name written in hiragana or katakana consists of the Japanese characters "su", "ba" and "ru". Su is as in "suit", Ba as in "Bart", and Ru as "rue" without the e. All are short sounds though, and the r in Ru is more like a cross between "l" and "r", similar to Maori.

So...something like Sue ba roo but with really short vowel sounds.

Someone who is actually fluent in Japanese feel free to correct me.

Sounds good, I feel anything I add would just be referencing stuff that's already been articulated anyway.

finn you're going to have to provide links and back up for your statements or I'm going to have to ignore you. so far you've contributed vague aspersions of your personal beliefs and for some that might be relevant but until you show us someone of respected knowledge ie not you, with some scientific data to back up what you're throwing around, its just meaningless....

Finn speaks the truth. And isn't the real reason you don't crack ProTools is because it comes with a large hardware desk interface? And anyway, as Finn mentioned it's irrelevant as media != software when it comes to locking it down.
