on a sadder note there was an interesting shot of john banks (wasn't his mea culpa just amazing!) with not a single national MP sitting behind him. I'm told many of them were in Judith Collins office to watch Thatcher being buried..
That tells me all I need to know about her..

yes it was great to be able to collectively watch and talk and laugh via #twiter. Was also fun to see the occasional MP respond while sitting in the house (im look at you Mr Cunliffe) It was nice to see the chamber while the vote was on instead of that damn infernal jet boat You could tell the MP's were not aware the cameras were still on great also to see the house stay sitting so we could partake in the celebrations.
Watching it again this morning there is no way anyone was going to heed Lindsay Tisch's request to 'refrain from comment

This report is interesting (well more interesting than working) this from the report
After seeking and receiving legal advice, the Government Statistician decided that those not answering Yes
or No to the question on Mäori descent in the 1996 Census should be allocated to one of these two categories
for electoral purposes.so you could look at it from the other direction and say the chief statistician wanted to make sure the correct amount of people were allocated to the general role. It seemed to be his view that everyone had to be one or the other he wasn't able to leave that question 'unanswered' and there by leaving those people with no representation
right time to let someone else have ago. Thanks for the post Graeme!

also interesting that speaking Maori didn’t have strong enough correlation. The optimist in me says its because so many non Maori are speaking Maori now..
update
bugger kept reading…not enough people speak Maori to make any difference to the results -
Ah thanks for that. It seems a sensible approach. Is there any rules on using the decent question or could they have just used the ethnicity question?
I'm presuming a chief statistician decided to separate out the question in the first place and another one decided that wasn't good enough.

so in a nut shell i don’t answer the decent question but answer the following (hypothetical genralising here)
low income
speak Maori
christian
low educationthen i might get assigned as Maori..
Is this right thing to do? for me it depends on what the other questions they use. The census forms are herehttp://www.stats.govt.nz/Census/about-2013-census/2013-census-forms-guidenotes.aspx
clearly if you answered the language question with Maori, the hapu question and the ethnicity question then you have a pretty good shot at being Maori (i wonder how many people answered all those questions but not the decent question)
but when you start going down income, employment status etc then its starts to get interesting form a political point of view. isn’t that racial profiling?

After remembering I could watch seven sharp after my beloved shorty using +1 I tuned it. It looks like a show that has some beeding in to do. I'm optimistic there is so much format material overseas they can hack... Look at seven days
On that note attacking criticism head on...celebrities reading mean tweets is one if the best things ever they should do that bit.

Hard News: Music: In before Christmas, in reply to
Isabel recently reminded me of this, a Christmas song which is kind of corny, but which always makes me cry
oh shit that made my cry to!
