Wow, that light was low! I used to get similar results in the 70s with Ilford 400 (was it HP400?) push processed to 1600, but I think your grain is finer. And they're great photos, on top of the techy stuff - good job!

Has anybody seen my house? I'm sure it was just here...
Glad to see positive progress, best wishes for the next phase.

Happy birthday David - you share the day with our daughter Alice, who's 29 today. I hope the stay in Butlins isn't a long one, it could lose its charm fairly quickly. Happy house moving!

Great to hear of the progress, best wishes for the move. The old neighbourhood is looking awfully derelict as people move on, but the future looks positive now.

I'm so glad to hear that you've found a solution, even though you were taken to the limit by other people's attitudes and mistakes. We're having what may be the last of the River Rd block meetings tonight, as nearly everyone has left our area and the group is drifting apart. The dismantling of neighbourhoods is one of the saddest aspects of all this post-quake mess. Anyway, you now have a future that looks positive, which is great news for Christmas week.

It's worth getting hold of a copy of the 1975 Oscar winning "Network"; all the dreadful excesses that made this movie cutting edge satire in 1975 are now the standard fare of mainstream TV.
Awful reality shows, freak shows posing as documentaries, faked-up nature docos involving contrived dangers, and cruel elimination contests pretending to be entertainment; we laughed at these and said "Isn't the US incredible? It'll never happen here, we're too clever." Not so, it seems, once the bean counters get hold of the controls.
As for Network's ending, with the man who was killed "live" on air because he had lousy ratings; that couldn't happen here - could it?

I work in e-learning admin at a university. When we want to set up new systems or major projects, we always invite someone from the students' association to represent the student view. How will we do this under the new regime? Put an ad on the noticeboard in the caf?

History repeats - "Don't worry about it, it's only a little bit, it's for the best, it will only affect the bad guys, if you have done nothing wrong you'll be OK". These have been the words of every suppressor of free communications for centuries.

Emma, we had a similar experience in February. A friend's son's wedding on a beach in Northland, several swims in the sea, lovely lunches with friends, back to Christchurch - and bump, 22nd February on the 7th floor of the UC library! The biggest mood wrecker ever.
You'll bounce back, but there are definitely weeks where the spirit is a bit watery. That's the human brain adjusting, I reckon, like in dreams but awake - absorbing new inputs, rewriting memories and values to make the internal model fit the external model.
Still, it is really shitty, isn't it?
