Hooray for South Park references!

Can Nexus run this? It is several shades of awesome.
Also, I'd rate your chances of MSM picking this up - the science may be too science-y, but "Minister Makes Shit Up," is a pretty timeless theme. -
Disconnection would nevertheless be preferable to fines as it would be an inconvenience, he says.
In whose world is being fined not an inconvenience?

Here's Derek Browne from dDub on downloading, in Nexus not too long ago:
Anything you’d like to say to the Hamilton fans out there?
New Zealand’s full of such creative, talented people, and I would say, support NZ music. Go out and get involved. It’s a real big time for NZ music right now. I think it goes in waves, in cycles, and now it’s a really important time. Ten years ago, there were a quarter of the bands and gigs, and now it couldn’t be more different.
How’s that?
We’ve just become a lot more aware the quality of the bands has been a lot better, and the internet - downloading, iPods – has helped spread music around.
So you’re cool with… how do I put this… piracy?
I reckon anyway you can get the music out there for people to have a relationship with, it’s great. Downloading is a great way to get it out, and fair enough you might be missing out on a few dollars, but if you’ve got your shit together and put on a good live show you’ve got nothing to worry about. You can’t fight it, so why not work with it? The main aim is to get music into people’s ears. -
Looks like the Pentagon lacks an experienced designer. I've seen better-looking Jehovah's Witness pamphlets.
Does this remind anyone else of the Presidential briefings in the Simpsons movie?
"Pick a number between one and five..."
"Six"
"There is no six." -
It would seem the Herald has opted to open up the Swine Flu story to YourViews, where the antivax people appear to be having a party of some kind.

Could somebody kindly point me to panic in the media? Over the last twelve hours I've followed TV One, the radio, the Herald and the DomPost, and they've all been pretty measured and informative. They have a legitimate story to tell and seem to me to be largely on top of it. Or am I missing something?
I agree. You absolutely can't blame the media for picking up this ball and running with it. The fact that we've got a bunch of kids (possibly) infected with a virulent strain of flu is a legitimate public interest. (I liked that they actually talked to one of them as well.)
I note that it's WHO warning about "pandemics" - the media's just the messenger. They're only doing their job and reporting the story. Health stories are catchy and it's something I, for one, would want to read about. I've been a bit taken aback at how much of the reaction has been OMG SCAREMONGERING!! when interest in this topic is entirely legitimate and reporting so far has been reasonable.

But until then I'd put them in the rumour basket.
Hence the question mark, although if that's any reflection of actual conditions there, you've got to feel sorry. It sounds genuinely frightening.

Isn't it interesting that the memetic spread of disease-stories in the media is far more contagious than an actual biological virus? I just think that's nicely ironic.
