Fanks. I can understand why the authorities are not impressed!

I am so confused. Is it a fake blog with made up facts or is it a real blog by an actual IPL cricketer? The way it is talked about it is real, but it is called a fake.

I think I need another coffee

A dumb question perhaps - what does NACT stand for?

  • Hard News: Dear Prudence,

On another note, I am interested in your purchase of "renewable" electricity. I've always thought this a bit of a con given the interconnectedness of our transmission system and the fact that (in a physical sense) the vast majority of Auckland's power must come from the coal being burnt at Huntly and the gas being burnt at Otahuhu.

I hope you didn't pay any extra for this privilege.

I am unsure about leveraging the success of PA as the way forward for a new independent journalism outlet.

As has already been pointed out, part of PA's role is that of media commentator and would that not be compromised if it gets directly in the game?

I am also not sure how that would expand the audience. The key issue in my mind is not sourcing or paying for the material (there has already been a good commitment to that on this thread), but how that material is taken to the masses.

I too would love to contribute to an endeavour such as this.

However, I think the results would need access to the mainstream media's audience. We already have high quality, well researched and well written journalism available on the internet (such as PA) and it doesn't cost me a bean.

The issue (as I see it) is how to take this higher level of journalism to those who aren't motivated to seek it out.

  • Southerly: A Year Ago Today,

In the spirit of ME TO, we also had a son about three weeks ago.

I am so thankful that our experience with the health system was so much better than yours (though, obviously, not that you had to go through what you did). We had several issues to deal with during our mission to have a baby and at every stage (all public) I have always been so impressed and almost surprised at the competence, professionalism and empathy shown by all concerned. I have always come away from the hospital feeling that my tax dollars are being very well spent.

When our birth came (a little early) we ended up spending three nights in NICU. A very minor ailment, but as you say, no fun for the parents whatsoever.

Auckland Hospital (the new location of National Women's?) allowed me to crash on a mattress on the floor of my wife's room. They even had a form for me to fill out (basically agreeing not to run around naked after dark) so it is obviously something they do often.

Reading stories like yours makes me so angry. I really hope you took, or take, this up with the appropriate authorities. Treatment like you received needs to be brought to the attention of the authorities so that change can occur.

Who could argue with that! I'm convinced.

Is this the kind of thing one can legitimately go to 'unaccompanied' without looking a little lame?

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

I popped along to Hot Chip on the back of something I read on Public Address. Even dragged a few sceptical folk along. I really enjoyed that and will have to look them out next time I find myself in Marbecks.

The Killers sound was crap - even from the East Stand. Muse sounded much better (and put on a better show I thought - I quite enjoyed them).

I really enjoyed ending the night with the Violent Femmes. Great sing along stuff! Only band of the day where I knew all the words! I thought that was a better way to finish the night than last year with Fat Freddies.

Did anyone else try to use the trains to get home? What a shambles and quite frankly unacceptably so. They didn't seem to have special event trains put on and there was a very long wait, so much so that they had to block access to the over-bridge.

When a train finally arrived it had TWO carriages. The next one that we did get onto had four and was bound for Waitakere - not that anyone bothered to tell us. Half the train had to get off at Boston Road when we realised the error of our ways and try to flag down taxis (it already being 1am) to get home. A shambles and not good enough for a city trying to push people onto public transport for such events.

Didn't ruin a fantastic day though.
