What gets me about LC is that I didn't even know he was coming until we had people over for lunch last Saturday

Actually I didn't buy tickets until Wednesday afternoon after reading the reviews. I had heard bad stuff about quality of sound at Vector Arena. Was definitely proved wrong.

the babysitter who can deal with our middle child ain't born yet.

Ahh, whatever happened to the good ol' daze of valium. My friend's mum reckons they worked like a treat in the milk. ;)

I wish people stopped reminding me that they've been to see Leonard Cohen. (The lucky bastards.)

I know what you mean. I feel the same about those lucky bastards who saw Neil Young at BDO.

Some of us were lucky enough to see both (breaks into muttley style laughter about now)
After noting that Cohen was $140( and not just the $170 everyone used as excuses to decline such a pleasure, selfish admittedly) I promptly hit the buy button. And, may I just say ,worth every penny . :)

  • Hard News: Reasons to be cheerful,

I don't think anyone, cyclist or motorist, (lots of us are both, of course), can have a productive discussion

So....what I guess (without wishing to sound reductive) we have established is, cyclists can and do have a difficult time on our roads and van drivers can and do have a difficult times on our motorways, and generally all get bloody frustrated by each other at some time. Much like here also. :)

I also predict that any attempts to limit people's ability to park on the side, or to partition off a continuous cycle lane, will provoke howls of outrage from the motorists.

Well, actually I wish they could do more of that on the main corridors. My experience with traffic on Dominion Rd is like playin' chess. A bus/cycle(go figure) lane and parking does not for even traffic flow make. Move the parked cars to the side streets (of which are many in Ak,( just sit in the chaos yesterday to witness that) and walk the few metres to main road. Also my friend who contracts to Transit has heard from me on many an occasion about this.

I've noticed public radio mentioning studies warning of the ill-heath effects of television on children.

One particular ad I found clever and helpful in several ways was the persil laundry powder ad, promoting dirt. Twas something along the line, eat dirt, get dirty, play outside in the dirt, (then don't forget Persil) I thought of the benefit to kids, and for future treatment should child maybe meet a homeless person (stereotype here), and the elimination of the cottonwool image that is often shown on other ads. Clever.
Marketing (ads) is firstly about a target audience. If you get that right, you're dancing (and gaining the rep you are in the game for in the first place). There seems to be this archaic perception that "fear" will stop a problem or make one aware, so that approach is often used for awareness campaigns. "It's not ok" is a shift from "fear" and possibly that is why we relate to it better.I find the ad is also clever because it is meaningful to only those that need it (target audience) but not annoying to those who don't. I'll move along now.....

  • Obamania, For Real,

With organizations like Fox, I do believe John Stewart has plenty to keep The Daily Show alive and well. A quick flick over last night to see if just possibly there could be some acceptance of the new President ,but, as expected, some batshit expert woman being interviewed for her opinion. I mean, what is that channel for? Back to John Stewart, his show is still a great watch, I was happy to see last night. Got the impression it could be used for a checklist in the Whitehouse.

I wonder, did the get the handbag back?

My personal highlight of the year so far is getting a written apology from the Minto crew

    "How do you know?"
    "It's knowledge, bro."

    Reasons to be cheerful...123.
