  • Up Front: Fairy-Tale Autopsies,

After lurking for a year or two, it felt strange to start posting, because I felt that I knew some of the regulars so well, but they/you wouldn't know me from a bar of soap. And I've still never met any of you*.

Mostly my posting is limited by my lack of free time; but occasionally a thread of interest will coincide with an intractable problem at work, and I'll wade in.

    * Except that I'm sure I met Keith Ng once at a 14th birthday party. Also I once wrote off a car belonging to a "Damian Christie", but we can keep that quiet, can't we.

  • Hard News: Locking in the Future,

Ok so I wanted to do some revision on the copyright thread, which I mostly missed at the time, but all the links to it (including from the original article) point to this - which I don't think is it.

Our house will be a RWC free zone in the midst of the suburban chaos.

Likewise! We could have little signs on our fences, and distribute a map of Mount Eden with all the safe havens marked.

Has Danyl conceded the point yet?

I wouldn't blame him for not turning up again. This thread is wak now.

I’ve always said that the hardest part of rocket science was making sure the orbiting humans didn’t kill each other (but I’ll happily defer to richard).

By the same token, people who ritually complain that Foucault is hard seem to be fine with the fact that Richard Feynman is hard, for reasons that frankly escape me.

I wonder if it comes down the old discovery vs. invention conundrum (I'm sure it has a name, at least wrt. Mathematics, but I forget what). People will readily accept that the Universe is immensely complicated, but seem to balk at the suggestion that people are also complicated. See also: Objectivism.

LOL, pic 1 is my desktop wallpaper since a week or so ago.

The ones with black on one side or corner are the most functional though, ’cos you can put your icons there for visibility.

ETA: is it just me, or does "NASA astronaut Robert Behnken" look about 12?

    what aspects?

Mostly the quantity. How could so much coherence be manifest in such a short space of time?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm finding work a little challenging today (trying to grok Javascript which I didn't write - compared to that, heated intellectual discussions on PAS are puppies and kittens).
