  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

Hey Tim, havin' just read your earlier post, I must say, I bet all your kids love what you do to educate them. Got all teary eyed, (and I think t'other half did too when I read it out loud to him). The sort of tears like when the dog in Santiago rescued another dog from the middle of the freeway. Cheers

    @ Ben,

This year Kings School will be getting $1300,000.00 as the new funding for private schools is increasing and we, the tax payer are paying for that. Of course that has nothing to do with the fact that it is the school that John Keys son attends. Why do private schools have exemption from these Tolley standards?

  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

Maybe it is a FUCKING GOOD THING that teaching is focused on core things like Maths and English rather than feeling good about yourself. It is a FUCKING GOOD THING that the policy says NO child left behind.

Sagenz you may like to know that, theses standards are already written into law. Maybe you should have done your homework before having a tanty.Surely you know what homework is?

it is experiencing the system that makes you realise how shit it is. John Key grew up in a shitty area and went to state school. Helen clark was a boarder at a posh auckland state grammar school.

So John keys State school was worse than Helen Clarks State school?

One should say: but your good with your hands.

And that was one of the thing that __really __annoyed me about this Education amendment bill. It was the assumption that all kids must be "successful". Creative isn't considered at all. Not everyone can or wants to do what Anne Tolley wants :(

  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

And can someone explain why Anne Tolley, without a degree and not much apparent experience in the sector,

Metiria has said it in a nutshell for the last 3 days. Privatization is the momentum being created. Private schools will be exempt from these National Education Standards. Public Schools will require funding (remember, there is none) so public /private partnership will be hailed as the answer to lifting these "poor standards" we will find in public schools. I'd follow the money trail (actually I will) and Tolley will be backed somewhere along the path.
Metiria has IMO,( along with a few others this week,) done a great job of educating the Nat / Act/Maori coalition that fluffy ducks don't cut it. Fortunately , Maori listened regards,90 day, fire at will. Act agreed with Labour that the Bail Amendment was only going to help a wee bit. Nice to see the smaller parties are willing to be educated.

  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

Tolley made no apologies for increasing the fines for truancy. "The maximum fine for (not) registering your dog is $3000. I think it is more important you send your children to school than register your dog."

    ...
Did you know the Council can have your dog put down for not doing as you are told. Create fear then control. I'm sure someone famous said that ;)

I'm going to take a deep breath and a fistful of valium and give her the benefit of the doubt.

And any select commitee would allow this also .

I'm sure the lawyers will have fun arguing it.

Which Lawyers? The ones on the front bench of the National party, the middle bench or the back bench?, or the ones representing the unemployed, (oh that's right they wont exist) and meanwhile, just hope you are not 17. This sux already and it's only day 3.

    Does that outlaw homeschooling then?

Or correspondence? Tolley says consultation will happen after the law is passed so in answer to your question, you will have to ask her next week.

Tax Cuts + Kiwisaver (2+2) for single (no WFF) = tax exemption canned for employee, now only for employer, and I think others are more versed than me on this, but it stinks for single folk. I am sooo confused now. Also, add 90 days, employee fired without being offered a reason why, 13 weeks stand down for unemployment. The future looks so bright. Is that right?
