  • Hard News: The smart thing to do,

    a bit more than "I went to Lima and all I got was this shit-coloured poncho";

    Alpaca daarling :)

I guess Helen Clark and Phil Goff spent the last nine years annually being equally arseholish to John Howard and Kevin Rudd?

I'm guessing now that is what I am missing, yes? I think it would be nice if the media following him around were able to inform us about what happens at APEC , then at least I wouldn't always feel in the dark about Naaational .

  • Hard News: The smart thing to do,

It was reasonable of National to want to conclude negotiations on support agreements in time for John Key to undertake an important round of official foreign engagements.

Please excuse my ignorance, but, could someone please explain to me why these official rounds are so important? I mean all I got so far was any help Key got from this end, was tossed in the rubbish for his own thoughts on telling visiting dignitaries(?) that they should mean what they say. doh! Then next visit, Pomgolia to tell Brown he knows better than him, how to run his country! What am I missing here? Wouldn't it have been prudent to stay home and organise his party and those in coalition?

  • OnPoint: There is no depression in New…,

I think it is only during the onset of a recession you really begin to see the attractions of short termist populist measures.

Yesterday I saw plans for Xmas, shopping lists for xmas gifts and restaurant bookings. On my way home , petrol $1.43 a litre. Going down!

  • Hard News: Call it what you like,

because it seems downright negligent when people can't get life-saving services in times of need.

I asked a friend at the time of news of Finn and her thoughts were, that it would have probably been staff shortage, but she also mentioned that there may have been a number of call outs at the time. Not knowing the particular case, she didn't want to assume anything. Her training is heading in the direction we all want, but it takes training and several years study before she could even be a volunteer unpaid to get to a position where she can work in the field of mental health. I also note there seems to be plenty of places that come under the heading of "mental health". Without all of her training she cannot make any assessment without senior authority, so it is a very long road to travel and how do you get more enthusiastic about training etc. I have no idea, but at least people like my friend do care, even if it does end in tragedy. They are trying to make the system work. Also police have no understanding so this is not an answer.

  • Hard News: Some cool stuff so you won't…,

    Agreed
    Here's a couple...

The shades were necessary as it got dark about 9 and any pre meet/drinks before required them, as you do. Man, there was a lot of Docs. I couldn't decide which of mine to wear. My choice is green, black ox blood and Stewart tartan which were the ones I eventually chose. Ahhh, 'twas a good un. :)

  • Hard News: Some cool stuff so you won't…,

Most of my old comrades in arms are looking a bit grey around the edges.

I was mostly surprised that hair/ colour looked natural. i mean, felt a bit odd having bright red, but not that I particularly care, and not that I did it for the gig, and it was nice that I saw people I hadn't seen for 30 years and they looked just the same, and they (politely I'm sure) thought the same of moi. There was definitely a bit of grey but all good.
Now the Headless Chickens are playing straight across the road from my local this week and last night has inspired me to seriously consider going to that also :)

Say hi to Nick Spelling Mistake from Pete & Jo in nelson!

Forgot Sorry, but I did say hello to him and the evening was great. Alastair (Proud Scum) nearly took his head off jumping around on the stage and was thankful we told him at the end of the night :) I am amazed I remember the whole gig . Thoroughly good night had by all I was with although I did loose a few people along the way but interestingly found some others I hadn't seen for years. My fav for the evening would have to go to Proud Scum with Spelling Mistakes coming in second. But , all were great.Well worth it. My head hurts a wee bit.....

  • Up Front: And a Pony. A Sparkly One.,

Relationships are always complicated, however simple they should be.

    ,

Yes, I know that. But we're now discussing a hypothetical polygamous marriage where there are three, or potentially more, people who all have claim to having been involved in the child's upbringing.

Then surely here is the" all people are equal opportunity". If one enters into any form of civil union and has it documented, then split equal if one leaves, child/ren choose who they go with. Simple? Do the paperwork first, save the emotional baggage should any part of it turn to custard.
I am not really up with the play here but I comment anyway :)
As a kid,( parents monogamous), I never thought it odd that amongst our extended family, (and all of whom shared a great relationship) were lesbians, bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual, and hermaphrodite. No one particularly had an opinion or judged each others relationships as being unwarranted. On asking (when pretty young)about two aunties, I was told that "they like living together. I never needed any more information than that. I guess I appreciate that I still don't need any more information than that. I'll go away now :)
