Sometimes not having a Twitter account brings its own rewards.
The National Drug Policy places a strong emphasis on alcohol and other drugs which is admirable. The Law Commission has also done some excellent work in this area. But these sorts of commonsense reports unfortunately mean little when they're so easily ignored by a government with an entrenched drugs are bad attitude.
Perhaps I'm too cynical, or maybe just impatient for meaningful change.

Again, we come back to the concept of harm reduction.
The very terminology which the US has fought to keep out of UN drug policy for years. It does feel like the winds of change are starting to blow when Peter Dunne starts talking about drug abuse as a health problem.

MediaWorks chief executive Mark Weldon said the timing of Jennings' departure, after 25 years leading TV3's news output, "works best for the company and for Mark personally".
"Works best for the company". Right!

Danyl has an interesting post over at the Dimpost. It involves a sudden surge of foul-mouthed commenters abusing Key on an RNZ page, which led to a subsequent demonising of "the loony left" by Whaleshit.
Given the relatively low number of commenters on any RNZ story, this does exude the whiff of an organised campaign. I wonder who would stoop low enough to use these sort of dirty tactics?

Indeed. The Herald report states that the DNA sample was "260 times more likely to belong to Kerr than any other random male". In forensic terms that's actually a very low match, but it was enough to convince Kerr that the Police had him dead to rights.

While the timeline is unclear, Kerr apparently changed his mind and sent a retraction letter to Police saying he’d destroyed the 1080. However this time he left a sample of his DNA on the letter, which led to his eventual downfall.

The man behind the 1080 threat has finally been named as Jeremy Hamish Kerr. He earned royalties from a product called Feratox, an encapsulated form of cyanide. Kerr has pleaded guilty to all charges but denies his actions were financially motivated, as alleged by the crown.
Crown prosecutor Christine Gordon, QC, explained that the defendant earned royalties from a product called Feratox – an alternative to 1080.
But she said sales of the product were on the decline and the money earned by Kerr was not enough to live on.
At the time the threats were sent, his credit card was almost maxed out and he could not make the minimum repayments, Ms Gordon said.
It looks like Kerr resigned a number of directorships last year.

Mea culpa. I could have chosen my words more carefully. But keep in mind that LPrent laid a Police complaint in July last year alleging Slater paid Ben Rachinger to hack the Standard servers. This crime was freely admitted by Rachinger in a bizarre series of blog posts shortly after.
Given the lack of any Police action since then, a little anger may be justified.

Glucina's current employer TV3 has beaten the Ombudsman and released what they claim to be "the text". And it's pretty basic.
'just interviewed the waitress. Piece of work! Massive political agenda'.
Really? Were there no texts leading up to that point? Does Key usually ignore people who think they're doing him massive political favours by performing a hit on Key's victim? Sorry, but I find that hard to believe.
