Last time the family was there was for our Uncle Bill’s 70th birthday*. Bloody good night-*1987
**And delicious stuff we hadnt eaten before, let alone out of newspaper - squid! -

The town needs a blessing, a release, a lifting of the shroud. Lots of singing, weeping and karakia; a tangi and a celebration?
It really does, it really really does-
there's a couple of things being bruited around the kumara-vine and both of them do concern this matter-
there's been local ceremonies but - nothing area-wide.
It is - difficult to deal with all matters unless a re-balancing has been achieved.
And that, I understand is what is being worked on. How to do that - quietly, at dawn, with all the people who know about it there? Open invite? Representatives from ka-iwi-nahauewha? From everybody concerned? (Except the fucking politicians?)Will keep people here posted-

slander, Do you remember that cafe in High Street near the Cashel corner? It had orange vinyl and an order system on a wire thing like a flying fox across the roof. I would love to live somewhere with some character left; there’s fuck all in this place. I’d much rather have layers of memories in my town than the unquiet ghosts around now.

*That* cafe has escaped the memory banks Hebe...whilst Hay's remains firmly in mind - dunno why-
Those flyingfox (excellent name for it) and hydraulic tube cash transfer/receipt systems existed into the v.early 1970s-

I was rather hoping that the basement cafe would stay like it has been for a thousand years
Me too.
As a young kid a millenium ago, there were those three treats - afternoon tea at Ballantyne's or Hay's, or fishnchips at Fail's- -

Denisovans (not yet fully accepted as a separate spp.)
On the other hand, there is forthcoming *genetic* evidence for another as-yet-unfound- ancestor who was none of the foregoing- -

When I look around at what we, as a species, get up to, the word hubris springs to mind with such alarming regularity it’s in danger of doing real, physical damage.
Heh!
And, ae/yeah- -

Good idea. It certainly fits better than anything including sapiens, considering how intent we are on destruction.
I especially like PTerry’s assignment of us back into Pan-dom!
Seriously, for a half-baked being to call itself “wise wise human” ….!
And therebye trying to separate itself – put itself on a superior shelf waaay above our rellies- well, the word hubris springs to mind (squishing down its godly element.)I think there is some good evidence that we are an interim & slightly insane species and I dearly wish I could stick around for another 50,000 years to see where we head to, evolutionarily speaking*-
50,000 years BCE we were just starting to spread, as AMHs. Neanderthals were
still prevalent, as it seems were also the Demnisovians (that's probably a mispelling) in a very different area. And we know the being we call H.floresensis
was also definitely around...all of those human beings are dead just now. Except for us.Another 50,000 years! Waua!
Assuming we dont kill our great round mother......
