    1. ...Whale Oil would accuse it of being the mouthpiece of the liberal elite.
    2. This is a trick question!!! Everyone knows the only currency accepted at Showgirls is Showgirls Dollars. I hear the exchange rate is pretty bad at the moment, though.
    3. It will be like one of those old bronze statues where it doesn't tarnish in the places where tourists rub it for luck. Therefore, it will be completely green.
    4. Remember that time in the '90s when there was talk of renaming the North and South Islands with Maori names and Shipley suggested calling the North Island "Maui"? Well, that was adopted within the National Party. Key's holiday apartment in Maui is actually a timeshare in Tauranga.
    5. Your mum.

  • Hard News: "Creative" and "Flexible",

This discussion is all very RNZ National vs RNZ Concert, but there are other important parts of Radio New Zealand:

    - AM broadcasts of all Parliament sittings.
    - RNZ International (shortwave broadcast to Pacific Islands)
    - Sound Archives
    - Website

I've heard a suggestion that RNZI could be dropped as the ABC have a similar Pacific broadcast.

Pendant. 22 actually if you count the contained space within the letters.

My point is that while you or I might be happy to let our web browser calculate the letter spacing automatically, when it comes to logo design, one of the things a professional designer does is manually adjust the letter spacing so it looks just right.

It's the sort of thing that, when it's done right, we probably wouldn't even notice; only standing out if it looked aw fu l.

That is one of the things that professional designers do.

Here's a Logo for you "Auckland City Council" 20 letters and 2 spaces, I don't even care which font you use as long as it's readable.

I count 18 spaces, not to mention the space above and below the words.

How would that take shape? I'm fearful.

During a piece of music, the sound would fade down and a voiceover would say, "Brought to you by Watson's Auto Repairs 1979 Ltd". This would continue every 10 minutes.

That logo cost $50,000? You're joking. You're bloody having me on. Looks like something my 5-year-old could have done with a box of crayons and/or something my dog chucked up.

    Et cetera.

  • Southerly: Interview with Rodney Hide,

I did some Vivid and was inspired to write this poem:

    Rodney Hide stole my glue-bag.
Give me back my glue bag, Rodney Hide.
    I want my glue-bag.
    I miss my glue-bag.

    Rodney Hide returned my glue-bag.

    It was empty.

  • Hard News: Research Fail,

I'm bamboozled by this bit in the Stuff article:

[Heather Roy] said the top, gifted children and the bottom, worst-performing children would be able to switch between schools during the school day for different subjects.

How does that work? Will they be putting on a mini van to transport the kids to the other school? Or will the kids have to coordinate public transport (if, indeed, their school is serviced by public transport).

    What a hassle.

  • Field Theory: Webstock, rollin' with heat,

if something is important you find a way to go

I'm taking comfort with my quantum mechanics idea that somewhere in a parallel universe there's a Robyn who's going to Webstock. I'm sure she'll have a great time.

Meanwhile, back in this reality, I'm feeling seriously understimulated, and envious of those on fire from the Kiwi Foo experience and (soon to be) Webstock.
