  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

But 19thC transport has taken to (but not over) the USA with the use of corn for bio-fuel.
The 20thC is the only centuary where we haven't used bio-fuels - hay, corn etc as a fuel for our (land) transport/animal feed.
We're now in the bubble of over-shoot to collapse as far as fuel goes (put down that pin).

  • Hard News: You've got to listen to the music,

    Are the kids still crumping?

I remeber trying to get a drink at one of the quieter bars (with noisey music) on the strip and this kid (15yrs I think) challenged me to a Crump-off.
As it was one on one I passed, but latter had to do my Pete Hodgson to get through to the loo.

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

I'm using the 19thC as my guide.

Texas retakes 1/2 of New Mexico and reinstigates the Confederacy (might miss out Virginia this time) or reinvents the Bible belt as a banolier of nukes.

California asserts control over the whole Colorado River and States thereof.

Go to war with each other for the control over the industrial might of Mexico.

Yip this is pure fantasy stuff, but with a precedent.

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

I really think China is so self assured in its own might that it is not a benign force in the world but a disinterested one.
The numbers show clearly that it is the economic power house of the world and will be in the forseeable future, as long as no buttons get pushed.
The USA won't have a 100yr empire (I suspect I'll out live it), it will be subsumed by Brazil or an American Trade area.
The grasp they hold on WMDs is scary though, as individual states might choose to break off (Texas) and the Nuke facilaties are based in the bible belt. Armageddonit.

  • OnPoint: Google to Embargo China,

Teabaggery is such a twisted concept it should be painful.
A sexual act or an act of humiliation against the unsuspecting.
Has the meaning really been hidden & considered to be the latterday Tea Party, or is this the level of nasty it appeals to in the GOP?

[Tea Bags were invented by the British wanting to sell lose leaf tea in the USA and needing a convienent sample for their display.]

  • Speaker: Towards a realistic drug policy,

    7. "3 Strikes" Will Have a Disproportionate Impact
    On Minority Offenders

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Racial bias in the criminal justice system is rampant. African American men, in particular, are overrepresented in all criminal justice statistics: arrests, victimizations, incarceration and executions.

This imbalance is largely the result of the "war on drugs." Although studies show that drug use among blacks and whites is comparable, many more blacks than whites are arrested on drug charges. Why? because the police find it easier to concentrate their forces in inner city neighborhoods, where drug dealing tends to take place on the streets, than to mount more costly and demanding investigations in the suburbs, where drug dealing generally occurs behind closed doors. Today, one in four young black men is are under some form of criminal sanction, be it incarceration, probation or parole.

Because many of these laws include drug offenses as prior "strikes," more black than white offenders will be subject to life sentences under a "3 Strikes" law.

  • Up Front: The Naked and the Dude,

I heard the statues were originally painted to look lifelike and only through the decay of their society do we have the unpainted rawness and broken limbs etc.

    Anyone know?

  • Hard News: Holiday Musings,

The Haitian Revolution was seen by Haitians as an extention of the French Revolution and that the Declaration of the Rights of Man (rightly) applied to them.
I suspect the colour bar might blind him to this parrallel to his own history.

Share we organise a virtual (online) grave dance when he is finally taken from us?

Islander, I've heard comments that Avatar is racist, any thoughts on that?

Not having seen it I suspect it might be a bit of the Jar Jar Binks and using a recognisable sterotype as space alien.
