Am I allowed to get vaguely GRAR about that? No? Dammit.
Of course you are ;-) The guy in question did actually get the job. I later told him about my concerns about him watching Coronation Street. He then tortured me for years by telling me in detail everything that happened on the show.
Consequently I now hate the show more than before.

I do hope Coronation Street is still there in the future
Heh, I once recommended against hiring this guy based on the fact that he mentioned that he was a fan of Coronation Street.

Thanks Stephen. I thought I had English comprehension FAIL. Seems to be more like English writing FAIL.

Newmarket Business Association chief Cameron Brewer was a lone voice of support for the project. He said the $250 million-plus being spent on upgrading the site "is arguably going to improve the area aesthetically".
"What [the] block rising from the ashes does is clearly remind people travelling through Spaghetti Junction in particular that there is a prison in the neighbourhood."
Can someone parse this quote for me? How is this in support of the project?

In the final episode of JAG (watched by more people than the final of Lost) the main characters get engaged.
oh MAN!! Now you've ruined it! :(...

Fascism does not by definition have to be totalitarian or racist. As much Democracy does not have to be peaceful and not racist.
It's an economic/political system of Government for the Corporation, rather than the People.
I'ld love to hear a thoughtful analysis of what the system of governance is, if not fascist. This is getting boring now. Keep calling it fascist all you want. As far as I'm concerned it only makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about.
-
Should we adopt and lift fascist out of its European meaning for use here in Aotearoa, or should we make the effort to find another word?
Any other words you feel like adopting and lifting out of their European meanings? How about blue? Or green? Or democracy? Feel free to make up your own meanings to suit.
Fascism has a meaning outside Europe if you want to look at it geographically.
ETA: @Gio Snap! What he said - again.

"Dictatorial powers that remove freedom and choice."
LOL. Removing freedom and choice is kinda core to dictatorial powers so that's a nice tautology.

So the alternative is? What word exactly covers the general actions of National?
Well, you got me there. I don't know what word that would be. But it's a trick question, right?
But if you insist on using the word fascist, maybe you could point out how this behaviour by National corresponds to any of the basic tenets of fascism.
