Speaking of literary devices, this bit ..

Yes, but how? Saying that he's stupid and that his supporters are stupid doesn't seem a solution to me
I wasn't suggesting saying he was stupid, Gio. I was suggesting saying that he is unprofessional and demostrably unfit to hold public office.

Doesn't he have a comms manager? Or a PR advisor?
Not so as you'd notice.

Well, I can't disagree with you there, Giovanni, but Laws has still got to be held responsible for his behaviour. It looks to me like he just plays to the gallery as he knows that his supporters love this kind of puerile stuff.
-
Can't say I'm excessively impressed with the level of baiting by his correspondent either
That's not really the point, Giovanni. Michael Laws is an elected official and is supposed to rise above petty provocation and be a bit more professional. It's very dispiriting that there seems to be a constituency willing to cheer on his kind of boorishness.

And finally, don't forget to vote in the Forest & Bird Bird of the Year poll.
This whole exercise seems gloriously pointless to me, but what the heck, the saddleback got my vote. They are glossy, bold and noisy, and so rampant in the Karori sanctuary that they've even been venturing outside the boundary fence with the odd sighting in the Aro valley. That's pretty cool for a bird that had disappeared from the NZ mainland.

I might remind people that if you take issue with James, I'd prefer you attacked his argument, rather him personally.
Can we make an exception for Ian Wishart?

To be honest about my slight touch of hypocrisy here, I am sort of organising a university/KAOS reunion for early next year. It'll be twenty years we've all known each other, which just doesn't seem possible.
I can totally relate to this - my tramping friends from UofC days back in the 80s are my oldest and bestest. Our knee joints are all deteriorating together!
I guess the difference is that you choose these groups, birds of a feather and all that, unlike high school where you can't really avoid people. -
Yet he is superior in some ineffable way!
Now there's a challenge, denizens, go forth and find the ineffable and eff it..

OTOH, flimsy little pushchairs are very light when you need to carry them.
You have a point there. The Wilson la Dauphine (pram) didn't do steps or buses. However there weren't too many of either in Taupo.
