  • Hard News: If wishing made it so ..., in reply to Idiot Savant,

And there's the nub of it
    "Psychological or psychiatric conditions 41.5"

Just like with incentives to get long term ACC claimants "off claim" or acheive "actuarial release", which targets in large proportion Traumatic Brain Injury and Sensitive Claimants (Sexual abuse/ assault psycholigical injuries) this 30% will come from the invisible psychological injuries.
I was incredulous that this was announced alongside the outcry about exactly the same process occuring at the ACC. This goverment simply hs no clue about the reality of poverty, mental helath and disability.
    Not a f**king clue!

    There, that's my vent.

  • Hard News: Moving from frustration to disgust,

Great post, couldn't agree more. We will look back at this Government and wonder how they managed to trample all over process and make decisions without consulation, abuse Urgency, and ignore harmful results on New Zealander's.

  • Up Front: Disunited,

Awfully sorry to interupt, and I know this is very rude of me but...

ACC are trying to drastically reduce funding and access for counselling available to visitims of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse (Sensitive Claims.)
Please help the counsellors and therapists trying to fight these changes by signing this online petition:

  • Hard News: Spectacular but useless,

As above the full report is posted at www.berl.co.nz

Reviewing it as someone who works in mental mealth, in addictions and from a harm minimisation model, I agree Russell, spectacularly useless, but worringly it also seems shoddy and internally inconsitent.

The ratings that jumped out at me were the high rating of cocaine (38,390) relative to crystal methamphetamine (22,700), which is listed seperatley to amphetamines. Further in the report all stimulants are lumped together. What is uncelar anywhere in the report is how do they categorise the different sub-classes of drugs. On first impressions NZ has a cocaine epidemic, not a 'P' epidemic!

But where does P get classified, technically it isn't crystal methamphetamine, or amphetamine as crystal exists alongside P but is different in its manufacturing process by one step (the crystalisation, obviously.) Overall it left me with a sense of do they know what they are actually looking at here?

Please someone correct me as I actually hope I have read this wrong!

  • OnPoint: Fisking for Asians,

The woman is the worst kind of idiot, ignorant, opinionated and with a forum. She did a similarly bad job of writing about how "ALL INSANE PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE" a few years back in the same shoddy publication. Honestly, she is actually just a really bad journalist. Who keeps giving her licence for this nonsene? I completley support you taking N&S to task on this one.

  • Hard News: Because I am weak,

Eden park is the spiritual home of Auckland rugby and I can't see a reason to build another stadium (and I'm not just saying that because I can walk to the South Stand.) We won the 1987 world cup there and we will defend the cup there in 2011. I have no faith in our ability to finish a stadium in time. Let alone understand the governments dogmatic determination to drive it through so undiplomatically. (agree or Christchurh gets it? Stick it Mallard.) It will take more than some photo-shopped stadiums overlayed over the current wharf to convince me of its design merits. And if we f**k up another world cup bid by not completing a stadium, we will NEVER be given another chance, even if the AB's win every world cup till year 3000.
