In my district we only have two towns that make the grade. 50%+ of the population miss out.
Yikes! Ugly. Whereabouts?
One of the slightly optimistic things to come out of the Broadband Forum was a general acceptance amongst most local govt pollies and bigwigs that true broadband had to get into remote rural areas one way or another, that these communities can't be left behind again. Whether that translates to anything meaningful we'll have to wait and see.
One of the most surprising presentations was from a Far North councillor who admitted that they had no fibre in the ground, no money, had missed out on all Broadband Challenge funding had some of the poorest demographic areas in the country. But they were absolutely committed to a fibre future for their region.
All power to them I say.

I think they are talking more about communities with either 500+ households or 500+ lines (I cannot recall which), neither of which are the same as communities with 500+ inhabitants.
Yes, you could well be right there. We were sent out the expectations for the Tasman District which included most of our smaller settlements but not all.
Worryingly, Telecom's executives still seem to believe that demand is low because most people find dial-up for email enough so don't demand or have a need for anything more. Paul Reynolds stated as much at the Local Govt Broadband Forum in Wellington last month. This is a bit of a mantra in the organisation and makes me question just how committed they are to pushing the boundaries of a high speed rollout as compared to just paying lip service to ensure separation remains at an operational rather than structural level.

I don't know what their roadmap is, but we get 12 new cabinets and they're talking in terms of 3000 cabinets in five years, so I think the coverage will be pretty wide.
They've mentioned communities of 500+ inhabitants will be included. Little ole Brightwater where I live isn't large but is definitely on the list for the Tasman rollout.

McCartney has never produced anything decent since he left the Beatles.
<splutter!!> Oh, forget it. :)
Arf. Poor old Paul. If only he'd been shot dead in 1990, or 1980, or maybe 1975.

I can't ever see 'Keef' as cool. His skin is falling off his face in threads, and he falls out of trees and hits his head like a 5 year old. And he never could play his instrument with much talent.
See. What's not to like?

And finally, Pete Darlington came out of the digital hat for the MarchFest prize pack.
Thanks Russ, I'm well chuffed with this.
You won't regret drawing my name out of the hat either as, unlike with most people, beer makes me more charming and interesting. :)

I'd believe Hitchens' opinions on Obama right after I started believing that the Rolling Stones were better than the Beatles. (That's never, Stones fans.)
What about in 2008? On the one hand, there's Keef. On the other, there's Sir Paul McCartney and his amazing orange barnet.

OK, Hall of Shame moment. Last time we were in Sydney, Dave and I walked past this store, with takeout coffee in hand, and just couldn't resist staring in the window while crooning 'Moon River'. God, they must get sick of dizzy queens having moments of Audrey worship and scaring off the paying trade. :)
Well you don't have to be a dizzy queen for that. Having stayed in New York on E71st St next door to the doorway that Audrey exits at the start of 'BaT', we also had our own little starstruck moment and had to have the ubiquitous photos taken. The guy that owned the place was an Italian lawyer but was very understanding about our need to capture the moment.
Great to be able to just walk 2 blocks down to 5th Avenue to Audrey's Tiffanys store as well, just like in the film.

that mash-up is phenomenal. cheers.
It's made from two of the more mashed-up tunes of all time, so it has a head start there.
Also check out Smells like Compton from Party Ben. Mashes up Teen Spirit with Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube and Eazy E are perfect ranting over the Cobain guitar track.

Sigh ... alright, not deals for your mum and dad, then. My point related to generation, not gender.
Ageist!
