  • Hard News: The Honours,

Alcoholism used to just hit the men of my family, now it's hitting an aunty.
Her body has started to waste away and the old DTs are clear to see. She's not 50 and I suspect her life will be 20yrs shorter judging by the way alcoholism has killed others in my family and full of the dramas this disease brings.

  • Hard News: The Honours,

Bravery Awards are few and fare between. I know two guys with them and their stories about how they got them.
Both events lasted just a couple of minutes, both normal soldiers on Peace Keeping operations and both have never made the media.

If they had made the media, maybe the firefighters getting bravery awards would be more common place, but the bar is so high that they don't, which is a shame.

  • Hard News: The Honours,

Can we agree create a new term, from the root word "titular" and just use "tit" or "non-tit"?

  • Speaker: North versus South, Part 1,

Endorsing your uniting call for universal love. I will just quibble with you on being a "little country".

We are a country of average size by population.

Wiki has us ranked by pop as 125th in the world of 223 Countries.

    Top 1/3 by size.

CIA World Fact Book has us as 74th of 239 Countries (yes the CIA has more countries than Wiki) .

We are the most Peaceful Country by the Global Peace Index and 1st equal in the education stakes, of course that is with Australia.

I suspect proximity to our large neighbour might bring rise to a size complex. Same reason my Dad thought he was poor growing up in Fendalton, going to a fully private school, but living across the road from Greystones (it hadn't been subdivided then either).

We need so much more kinetic sculpture around the place.

The Bra Fence wasn't bad - has it gone?

I do like the pile of coal on the Moorhouse Ave site of the old Christchurch Gas Works.

The towers of rocks along the coast annoys me for some reason, not sure why, maybe its the no-loo-campervans their makers seem to drive?

  • Speaker: How to Look Good as a Nazi,

At a Party on the Weekend one quintessential bogan wore a T-shirt with pride.

    "Don't be frightened,
    Welcome to
    BRIGHTON"

Apparently the skinheads have been rolling the pensioners on the way home from the Essy (Esplanade Tavern -as in lets get messy at the Essy) for their wallets.

And so a new group (ahem gang Brighton Ready Crew) are born.

No fights as yet, but a lot of posturing.

A spokesman for Foreign Minister Murray McCully said of SP Trading that he was "aware of the alleged link and we are trying to find out much more as we can urgently".

When I made my submission in Christchurch to the Defense Review, one guy was very keen on getting the Illyushin 76 but I doubt he had anything to do with this.
