I haven't been watching much of Outrageous Fortune this season because it's on opposite my future husband Jon Stewart, but although I have never thought he was hot before, apart from when he was Avril-murdering-to-The-Chills, I have to say that Shane Cortese on his knees in front of Loretta was pretty much as hot as NZ television has ever got.

Please for the love of all that is good and holy, don't say when John Keys is Prime Minister, say when!

Jo can tell us which bars have them too.
That's true, I can. But to stop with the self-promotion and to get back on topic, I'm also wondering why it is that John Campbell has these special powers of injuction-fighting. Can someone explain it?

I'm going to take the bait you so obviously put out, and take exception to your second-to-last sentence. There's many truly awesome things to do in Wellington, no one need be socially deprieved down here!

Yay for the return of quizes! Being able to condense complex things down into interactive bytes is awesome.
And based on the results, I kind of want Brash back. Oh Joni Mitchell, how wise you are.

I'm a long way away right now so a little out of touch with te public response but Dobbyn is more akin to our Ayers Rock / Uluru than anything else
Not to be too pedantic or anything, but isn't Ayers Rock/Uluru pretty bloody controversial in itself? I mean, many Australians aren't particularly famous for their open-minded attitudes towards Aboriginal culture.
I wonder how things would have gone down if the tables had turned and the Australian government had said no to Dobbo playing at the Anzac ceremony instead of us nixing Farnsie.

Oh, and in regards to this,
And from the dozens of songs he could have selected for the event, Dobbin sang "Welcome Home". Noted, of course, for the line "the empire is fading by the day." How very very classy
I'd think that the very fact that many New Zealanders feel like British empire has little relevance to them nowadays but still feel like it's important to pay tribute to Armistice Day and the people who gave their lives to make this country what it is makes it all the more poignant. Besides, what are the odds that the royals who were actually awake during the ceremony bothered to listen to the lyrics?

The Alex books were my absolute favourite things to read while I was growing up - so much so that even though I usually despise the phrase 'role model' I have to use it about them and say that Alex was one of the best role models for a girl to have while growing up, which makes the Tessa Duder comment sadder. All this talk of stadiums gets my vote for the most annoying-and-neverending-and-boring news hype of the year.

I'm just surprised that the article wasn't more "this is going to affect your children's education and/or the price of your house" given that seems to the jist of most North and South cover stories.

As a cut'n paste:
I think the album Funeral actually came out in 2003 or 2004, but the song I have listened to most this year is 'Rebellion (Lies)' by the Arcade Fire. It's the kind of song that makes you want to pump your fist in the air exactly the way that Judd Nelson did at the end of The Breakfast Club, except in a much more energised and not so dated way. Although who wouldn't pump their fist in the air if they'd just pashed Molly Ringwald? Exactly. Anyway, there's my recommendation.
