I presume that's the liquor industry's definition of "moderate".
And my definition of a quiet post-pub-quiz cocktail on a Tuesday night. Damn, is it still only 3 o'clock?
e.g. serving spirits by the tray could constitute a breach of the licence by promoting irresponsible drinking.
Those laws have been varying in their effects and enforcement for some time. At one stage you could order a jug of Margarita or Pimms #1 or G&T; then it was banned for "promoting irresponsible drinking"; now you can again. I haven't tried here, but I don't suppose you can buy spirits by the bottle hear like you can in the UK?

There's some stuff you won't be reading in the news ...
Didn't you know, Russell? Crime's not measured in incidences per 10,000, but in column inches.

I see the new govt has issued a definition of binge drinking: four standard glasses of beer in one day.
Strewth, cobber! That's not a binge, it's breakfast!

Curiously enough, Christchurch, with roughly the same population as Manukau City, has more than twice as many liquor licences.
Christchurch, despite best efforts to turn it into a doughnut of suburban malls with a desolate hole in the middle, is still something resembling a city with an inner-city entertainment district. Manukau, AFAIK, is not so much a city (except in administrative terms) as a fairly arbitrary collection of suburbs in the greater Auckland conurbation, so the comparison is a bit of a stretch.
I'm not sure who said that places in Chritchurch were selling liquor 24/7: I wish that were the case here. Proper bottlestores in central Wellington all seem to close at 11, and by then or midnight the Starmarts & the like have all brought down the shutters on their pitiful wine shelves because the squeaky-voiced teens they employ at night aren't allowed to sell alcohol.

Or perhaps
(though preview doesn't think so)

Gotta have a bit of Depeche Mode to lift the thread.
Absolutely! Definitely the best Basildon band ever, though they have some competition for best Essex band, innit.
Meanwhile, the first single I ever bought, and still love to death (though I think I prefer the flipside, Part VI):
Video quite possibly directed by an earlier incarnation of Taika Waititi.

Che: is this guy one of your ancestors, by any chance?

It makes me cringe, the number of Kiwis who are calling Obama a 'Left-wing candidate'.
Did you see the letter in this week's Listener complaining about an article that was too soft on him, given that he is "far left"? That was based specifically on his pro-choice policies, and funnily enough the letter-writer was from Masterton.

How is Wellington set for guys hats or do I need to go to Melbourne?
Unfortunately, Wellington Hatters has just closed, since Hank is off to NZ Ballet. However, much of his stock was from Hill's Hats of Petone, one of NZ's oldest hatmakers, and places like Kirkcaldie & Stains still stock them. Luckily, I managed to pick up a rather fetching fez during the closing sale.

Pants, dude. Remember pants.
Of course. And trousers as well.
Some suggestions on male dress.
Oh dear, that makes me feel the need to go shopping right now, or at least before the free Champagne tasting starts at Wineseeker. Though the first one does look uncannily like my FB profile pic.
