Indeed. Thus I ended up voting “for” the eventual winner, even though I ranked it 4th.

For the fern to lose, turnout will have to exceed that of the 2014 election, and pretty much all the non-voters in the first referendum will need to back the Union Jack.
You are assuming that all fern voters will go on to vote for change, which seems highly unlikely.

For a start, it’s at most 79% of the 48% of eligible voters who actually voted. Which, if you’re paying attention, is not a majority.
There is a constituency, almost as large again – the difference between the 48% who voted in this referendum, and the 78% who voted in the 2014 election – who didn’t see anything to vote for in any of the five options, and who are likely to vote against change in the second referendum. -
Matthew clearly doesn't pop in here often enough to realise that "many of us here" don't actually support Red Peak either -- except as a protest against the infernal nonsense of the process and of the officially sanctioned proposals.

I think this will be my flag, for the next month or so anyway. Using the crossed Matariki/Crux pattern, but inverting it, and placing it in context: Crux leading home, Matariki out into the wider world. Also deliberately placing NZ on the edge of the frame (on the side of the flag anchored to the ground, obviously). And retaining black as a major part of the national colour scheme, without entirely giving into it.

I'm going to guess that one was supposed to represent Matariki (in red) / Crux (in white), rather than an array of failed attempts to apply bandaids.
But hey, as a national symbol, that works too. -

podcastrati made an appearance here earlier this year. Like twitterati, but higher profile, volume ... and pitch.
