  • Hard News: Rockin' the Casbah?,

Speaking of cheap-but-sorta-funny shots in music reviews, I believe Pitchfork reviewed a Jet album by posting a YouTube clip of a monkey masturbating.

Not masturbating, but certainly having fun with his genitals.

Perhaps I'm a crusty old bastard myself, but Griel Marcus and Lester Bangs were writers for whom you had to sift through a lot of pretentious, or flat out incomprehensible, dross to find the (admittedly damn sparkly) gems.

Waaaaah! I'm off my face on cough syrup and I'm going to drag my typewriter to the bottom of a swamp and review Metal Machine Music!

Oh and while were at it lets all enjoy the drive in the morning to the school of our choice. You gotta love Auckland and the school run.

Disgustingly, Hamilton's rush hour is between 3.00pm and 4.00pm.

  • Hard News: Food and drink,

One of the best things I've bought this year was a Sodastream machine.

Have you tried putting milk through it? Go on, do it. Now. More fun than Mentos and Diet Coke.

    Also, elderflower cordial is magical.

  • Seen Anything Good? Tales from the film…,

    Two more films.

Humpday is the tale of two former college friends, reunited in their early 30s, who decided to make a gay porn film. Not that they're gay, it's just something thay they decide to do for art. So the film is a really funny look at the tension between the pair, their friendship. All the guys I know who've seen it have liked its honest look at male friendships, and judging by the giggling from the audience, a lot of ladies enjoy the hot man-on-man sexual tension.

Every Little Step is a documentary following the casting of the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line, and it also provides a good overview of the birth of the music itself. I've only seen A Chorus Line one and wouldn't count myself as a fan of it, but I found the music really moving (and I kept crying, WTF). I guess the process that the auditioning dancers go through is identifiable to anyone who has gone after something difficult.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

Did I mention that when you linked to me regarding the Karl and the painted ladies, I got more hits than NBR, Computerworld, and NZHerald Technology combined?

I've had various things linked in Hard News posts and seen a spike in my web stats, but a few weeks ago Giovanni made a comment here with a link to something I'd written and it gave me a similarly big jump in numbers. Really cool!

Also, I doubt anyone reads much past page 3 of the commentaries, so I doubt anyone reads this!

    Lol

They are on the front page aren't they? I feel bad for not changing mine.

Oh, they are too. And in different colours for each blogger. Nice.

They don't make it to PAS, though, which is where I spend most of my time.

  • Hard News: The Short and Long of It,

And Wordpress! I <3 Wordpress and I'm going to WordCamp (nothing sinister - more like a conference/workshop/love-in).

WP is flexible and really friendly to use. I would absolutely recommend it as a blogging tool, especially to people who aren't confident with HTML.

I've heard that Supermodel is a bit complicated to use, but that side of things doesn't affect me. I don't see any pressing need for PA to switch to WP.
