Looking back to my university days at a guess 60% of my law and politics courses were women, many of whom were articulate and had strong views on all sorts of topics. I still keep up with a few of them and we often talk about political topics. Yet largely they don't feel the need to contribute to this type of forum and I don't really know why. That being said I don't know many people of my age band that post on this type of forums, male or female so perhaps it is more of a generational thing?
Oh and seriously, wtf is with NZ newspapers and their photos of columnists? It really detracts from an article when you have the author staring down at you, with their grainy mugshot serious expression. I buy newspapers to read, not to admire a photo gallery.

Possibly part of the problem is the US's system of fixed elections, you know, elections are always in November, and are every 2 / 4 / 6 years. Must be quite a tough thing to break out of that and hold a new election for whatever reason

Speaking of which, any documented, serious cases of electoral fraud in NZ? I'm talking to you, oh scholars of NZ elections.

I paid about $167 for my room at my last place in Wellington. But it was a beautiful flat though, my room had a view of nearly the entire harbour. Interestingly enough we didn't have a lot of choice in this flat, we looked for 4-6 weeks and this was the only place we could get. It was also the best place we'd seen.
Lesson being not to look for a flat in Wellington in January - February, nor have a cat. Really limits your choice, and there is little more frustrating than fighting with 20 other people over a mediocre flat.

Oh and back to a previous topic I just read Bank's The Algerbriast, which I liked, but wow, the back cover writeup bears little relationship with the actualy story.

For every well designed marketing campaign I'm sure there are a dozen rushed, riddled with compromise, badly thought out campaigns. So at least my brief (one year) experience goes anyway.

Ok, Garry Shandling is awesome, and the Garry Shandling show was awesome. Plastic surgery can be awesome. So if you combine the three that is a lot of awesome to be had, synergies bleeding out of your ears even.
Speaking of over eager efforts to praise, I have been watching Fox News a bit of late, since I currently am on holiday and staying at a house with Sky Digital. Boy, O Reilly's fox commentators love to flatter him, so much so that I think I'm starting to detect disgust on his face when they begin speaking. Oh, and I saw him interview Richard Dawkins the other day, now that was weird, O Reilly told him to come back when they had the answers.
