  • Island Life: Effective Immediately,

does anyone else find the ASB ads a touch anti-semitic?

ergo ASB must be an acronym for Anti-Semitic Bastards !! : )

or was Mr Slack intimating that Emmanuel Goldstein

  • Cracker: Gossip, Music and Laughs,

Hardly any of it is coming to Dunedin. Even the comedy convoy skips Dunedin somehow between Christchurch, Queenstown and Invercargill

though surely that will all change with the new stadium, eh?

Is the rumour I heard true, that it can't be used for cricket?

What will they do with it in summer - grazing?

  • Hard News: Modern Lolz,

    Lolz a palooka

may as well throw my hat in the ring as eat it
though some excellent contenders have gone before

    punchlining above one's weight

    nice...
maybe I should quip while I'm ahead

Good to see the Topps added to the Pantheon
and there may even be room for Red Mole and BLERTA
at the table in Valhahahahalla - yeah I know Simon
    - I'm showing my age : )

being a fan of the more absurdist and wordist realms
I'm surprised there are no Mighty Boosh boosters out there,
it's is the closest thing I've seen to a modern day, visual Goon Show . with a touch of a more cerebral Young Ones

and let's face it aural / radio comedy is in scarce supply
    - I miss it. The Goons, Peter Cook n Dudley Moore (I still have my autographed copy of the Dagenham Dialogues ) and lest we forget the Gods - Frank Muir and Denis Nordern - the English language has never properly recovered.

and what's that Sweetman chap got against Alice's Restaurant
it's still "cutting edge eco-comedy" in places (which I can still recite most of...)

and there's Lenny Bruce, George Carlin - but that's not keeping it Kiwi - so I'll taper off

    Fangs for reading dept:
You want southern vampires in small towns?
    - Try Poppy Z Brite's books.
True Blood - I'm waning on a tad, feels a bit Twin Peaks
and Northern Exposure (oops just did a Sweetman!) and the imagination doesn't get taxed much - bite, bonk, literal rednecks, more bonking, yawn - but Anna P does do well and I liked the Hep V idea, and other bits n bobs - I'll keep watching for a while...

(NB: Free Hep C awareness concert in Latimer Square in chch this Sunday 17th, 11-4 - Squirm & Dialtones and more)

The World Buskers Festival has showcased a few smart gems too
the earlier mentioned Wilson Dixon and Brits Hoopal from way back to name two that didn't have to fall back on bottom humour or just shouting....

    it's a funny old world...

    ya have to laugh!

  • Island Life: Dairy dairy me.,

Fits and starts, Ian, apparently normal hereabouts.

Most threads seem to quiet down over the weekend unless there's some burning issue at stake.

    aaaah icy

    phew!
thanks for clearing that up folks

and Emma how does that cow-cursing work?
could it backfire and result in an Ugloo

    Was it something I said?

Marsupial bottoms aside - just wondering why this thread
    has unravelled / stalled ?
(and David Haywood's and Emma Hart's as well)
nothing added for two, almost 3, days ?

    or is this normal ?

how did the rest of that old story go?
(apologies for unwitting sampling or playedyerriddum he lithped)

did it also include that classic punch line:

"with fronds like this, who needs enemas?"

let's shoot that round the Large Doremifasolotidodecahedron Collider
    and see who splits themselves...

    here come the warm bats...

Someone who once had the dubious pleasure of having one sleep on the foot of his bed (in Tasmania, natch) told me how he vainly tried to catch it in the act to see how it did it.

Holmes obviously the game is afoot stool

    Alimentary, after going through
    the motions, it's scatological

    how it did it.

    damn near killed him!

    Weasels ripped my flesh...

after torts and twenty twenty hindsight...

I can still see the Vic Uni Cafe Toy Love gig...

It was the one where we had the great idea of gaffering the leads from the desk to the stage on to the ceiling - without giving a moment's thought to the result of far too many bipeds in the grip of fierce hormonal tides and under the influence of whatever could be ingested, all busily converting perfectly good oxygen to carbon dioxide...
there is no respite from respiration and its unbinding effect on complex adhesive molecules in such a green house...

mid way thru the gig the leads started drooping (dare I say slackly) into the heaving and seething noisome miasma formerly known as the cream of the youth of the Wellington...

a fearsome prospect for the abnormally puny roadie that i then was - but there was nothing for it but to wade over the event horizon and into the sucking maw of metafused humanity, with a ladder, hammer and nails...

my one lucid memory from atop the lofty vantage of my hopefully prophylactic ladder(aside from the chips of recently plastered roof almost falling where they may) was of Benny Levin grappling with a pubescent pogoing punk to retrieve his toupee...
...then frogs fell from the sky and the geometry went non-Euclidean, I was passing non-Platonic solids and....

... and the rest remains thankfully hidden, my sanity slowly recovers to this day...

Sex and rugs and rock n roll
    we're huddled together
    in a bottomless whole...

thanks for the Toy Love live vid link too
nice to the see the old daze as captured photons, (is it just me or does Chris look a lot like Frodo in that one, it's the ears!) and the links at the end led to the Tall Dwarfs fab Brain That Wouldn't Die - I was that brain lickin' hunchback - hadn't seen that for a coupla decades either...
    ....awww weren't we all young
    sob!

PS: thanks for sharing your dairy era
    it's good to share...
