Craig: By God, I enjoy your writing even though I have been on the end of a couple of your barbs. Don't agree with your politics but hey..I still enjoy reading your colourful prose. As for Bill, I cannot say I enjoy any column he writes. I just get the feeling he has been promoted 1 step beyond his capabilities
Keith: Well done, I just the feeling though that the masterplan will be well over the heads of voters who wouldn't see past their current frustrations come election time. Mike Moore in the latest Listener remembers they had to convince voters where the money was coming from, now we debate how is it best spent. How much has changed under MC's watch.

My 'values' are that govts should strengthen the whole community, not just the privileged few. In my 30 odd years voting, National IMHO did only what was required to get re-elected.
Bolger did well with implementing the Treaty settlements but Labour 84-87 set the standard breaking down the privilege that had steadily built up over the earlier decades. However, the downside of all that was the burnt earth policies that followed, with National generally looking after its mates first then the rest of us as the country rebuilt.
Clark et al have tried to address the resulting deficits, social, education, health, infrastructure etc., but not boldly.
As well, competency is another core value. Compare the current team with Ruth's 'Mother of all Budgets', most of which had to be unwound over the next 2-3 years. National over the last few years has hardly been a team.

I agree with you, but it's sure understandable considering the amount of snide (and distasteful) chipping she and Jane Clifton get because of who they happen to be in relationships with
The National Party's take on current issues is spoken too often by the Listener these days. The first I heard of the Setchell issue was in that mag even after reading all of the big newspapers daily, and considering Jane's last effort on the innocence of Ryall, well.... it didn't even deal with any facts.
DBP's woeful performance aside, I contend it would be hard to separate my professionalism from my intimate's influence from the other pillow.

Ian Wishart is the Lord of the disingenuous and it amazes me that the MSM repeatedly pick up on his drivel.
I just think this guy has lost all credibility, and the MSM exposure he gets encourages him to keep going. If everybody would ignore him, hopefully he might disappear
Again belatedly, congrats to RB on his recent award success. Kiwiblog looks cheap and the opinions are nothing to write home about either

Go for it Compie!
This waterfront stadium idea is bigger than finding a venue for the RWC 2011. NZ needs a national stadium, something all of us can be proud of, and putting it on the waterfront gives all of NZ exactly that. Eden Park will always be seen as a provincial Auck ground - it is time that the knockers lift their eyes a bit more.
I take on board the concerns about design. But I think that heaven & earth will be shifted to make sure it is buit in time for 2011
