Bingo!! House!!
I got a line on this....
...1034 days to go...
and the Cosmic Lottery continues!as for K'inich Janaab' Pakal - I think his nickname of Sun Shield may be very apt - especially if we get the kind of massive solar maximum predicted between 2011 and 2013 - we didn't have a full-on electromagnetic culture when the last really big one occurred...
and solar output cycles seem to be approx 1300 years which seems to fit well with the Mayan propensity for 13, 26, 52 and larger sequences with zeros after them - those clever Mayans had Zero before Columbus arrived (and Zero afterwards as well!) - if only Columbus and those that followed hadn't made such a Mess o' America
and burnt all the books!PS: I love Pakal's sarcophagus lid - which is usually shown in portrait (or the classic Von Daniken astronaut pose) but when shown in landscape it reveals a hog riding dude astride his "Long Cycle" - or is that Solar Cycle 24 (bring on the 6th world or the 13th b'ak'tun... or is it just another cycle of the precession of the equinoxes? - approx 26,000 years.... )
the House of the Rising Sun anyone?

firewater
aqua vitae - water of life
acqua alta - high water
aqua alter - even "higher" water? -
ka pai (well done!)
...or is that Ka Pi
(that wacky Egyptian Soul Music
of a certain ratio...?)I'd always thought of Rodney as a nasal retentive,
a kind of P-Layby Huge Huffner...
But can he keep the The Big A (& NZ) solvent?
(or put another way, will Jaffas become sniffters?)
...and ACT has always believed in Magic Markets... -
...and has plans for scores (no kidding) of Hydro schemes in Canty, in part to feed the industrial dairy machine. And everyone knows this is Kiwi fruit with tits on
let's have done with it and call it
Flesh Water Management! from now on... -
those associations were made pretty widely when the thing first came out
Understandably - when did it come out?
this is the first time I have seen it I think...
if it was used in conjunction with that "Wrought Iron Gates" Ak promotion we all had fun taking apart last year I didn't pick up on it...
...and what happened to that campaign, it seems to have disappeared.... or maybe it doesn't get as far south as Chch -
IMHO this Big A logo is a bit of a space sucker
basically occupying a squareusing this in paper ads and on posters
it would make the word Auckland
very squitty in many applications
and i don't think the A cuts it on its own as a brandhaving spent many years dealing with disparate logos to fill up those "Logo Ranches" of sponsors on arts projects / posters, and the like those square ones with "modest type" just disappear when ya have them the same relative size to the others
I think the tourism Auckland one is fine -
the low horizontal format works better and saves column centimetres in paper ads as well!
Sure it is a tad "all-things-to-all-people"
(but luckily no kids with balloons!
or latte swilling proles under umbrellas... :- ) )it has the sea and sails and Rangitoto
(and really Rangitoto is Auckland's Eiffel Tower -
ie an instantly recognisable symboland at least Auckland is largest word/element - maybe use the stronger font from the A logo to punch it out a bit...
Then they could just change the "Tourism" to whatever word was needed
"Transport", "Water", "Parking", etcif it ain't broke and all that...

I quite like this logo
hmmm... but what is it saying
Auckland - frayed knot!
or
Auckland - the unravelling fabric of Societythough I quite like the subtle volcanic cone
in white in the middle -
and they don't want volcanoes in the visual mix
so I guess this is out of the question...
and this is the city that magma and ash built!...still a good name for Aucklanders maybe?
yrs
Jaffa The Huffps: maybe the supercity could be more of a magmalopolis
