  • Speaker: Levelling the Playing Field, in reply to mark taslov,

all big players with multinational advertisers.

Hoping Jonathan can chime in- is there an income stream in this? (I'm not imagining it'd be huge - I believe Google pay about US$200 for a million youtube views, though that's not the same as feature films).
Still interesting to know there's a significant audience out there.

  • Speaker: Levelling the Playing Field, in reply to mark taslov,

Your films alone have well over 1M views Jonathan.

    Wow! That's fascinating. All free?

  • Hard News: Public Address Word of the…,

Just been given a bottle of Midleton by a very fine friend, which is, I gather, a seriously nice drop. Can't touch it yet, but I'm gazing at it lovingly and stroking its wooden box* :)
    *this is not a euphemism!

  • Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to Gareth Ward,

the Mayor has escaped answering the handful of relevant questions – primarily why did the Hilton give him all personal stays gratis, SkyCity almost half, why he thought disclosure wasn’t necessary, and what involvement he’s had with any Council business affecting them? All the upgrade/text message/where-his-car-went crap is insignificant distraction that has allowed him to avoid those questions…

Spot on. So much ranting- and obviously false or misleading attacks and insinuations- that real matters of substance just wash away with all the mud.
Many reputations have suffered. The Herald, various councillors, the Slater/Cook/Weweegee nexus, plus the mayor and his office. It's been lose-lose so far.

    Remarkable.
    And [#offtopicalert] whooo:

APN last week posted a full-year net loss of A$455.8 million on increased write-downs on the value of goodwill and its newspaper mastheads.
The company’s managing director and most of its board resigned this month after major shareholders opposed plans to raise new capital.
The shares last traded at 27.5 Australian cents on the ASX and have shed two thirds of their value in the past 12 months.

That’s dramatic. Can they come back? ’Cos it looks like it could be a one-way ride.

  • Hard News: We need to talk about Len, in reply to BenWilson,

here is perfectly sound financial reasons that have nothing more sinister in them than influencing the Mayor’s next choice of a hotel to stay in.

In most of the cases,- where Len didn't book the hotel himself anyway, and was a very regular visitor- it just seems weird to think it remotely out-of-order that he'd get upgrades- and/or the odd freebie.
In the case of Sky City, where it seems he didn't regularly stay, it's different (and not good.)

  • Speaker: Levelling the Playing Field,

Thanks Geoff- will definitely try to catch Nebraska and keep an eye open for the others (did get to Blue Jasmine.)
The question of distribution again. I’d love to be able to buy some of these films online. Watched Patu last night- meant to just watch half, as it was late, but ended up watching til the end. It’s a taonga, that film :)

How many of them have been shown here? How would one begin to get hold of them?
