http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/9004314/Abuse-of-disabled-teen-inexcusable
That saga....and the obscene behaviour of the NMDHB.....http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2555812/allegations-of-abuse-towards-disabled-teenager
This is truly harrowing stuff...
To answer you question Hilary....it does seem a bit weird, wasn't Brackenridge under the DHB....and now under a trust? I'll have to look into it.

"It was a desperate situation, we were in a position of trying to find solutions. My cry now is for families like mine that suffer at the hands of inadequate support.
“There’s a lot of families out there that are not getting the help they need and if they are, it’s like ours, it’s not in a professional environment.
She said there was no funding for the care Otto needed. “I want [the Government] to institute the right mechanisms.”
Her son was briefly in the care of charitable trust Spectrum Care, which let him go because it could not get enough funding to cater for his needs, she said.
One needs to ask where the hell the NASC was in this.
"Needs Assessment and Service Coordination."
Now, for clarity...Spectrum flicked Otto off to these guys....http://www.caregroup.co.nz/about.html..who are in partnership with these guys...http://www.genevahealth.com/About-Us/Geneva-The-Community
All of them have slick, trust inspiring websites...yet...they sent an untrained, "independent contractor" to care for two high needs clients.

Fighting talk from Tim....http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11490776...
Mr Groser admitted opponents of the deal were probably winning the political battle at the moment, but said they would not win the war.
"Once I've got a deal to recommend to the Cabinet, and for the Cabinet to then recommend to the New Zealand people through Parliament, I am extremely confident we will win the war. But at the moment all the noise is on the other side."
Keep it up folks.

Asked whether New Zealand had ever considered abandoning the TPP talks because of the difficulty of getting a reasonable deal on dairy products, Groser said he was "not emotionally in the space of wanting to leave the party", given that New Zealand had initiated the TPP in the first place.
"We will not be pushed out of this agreement," he said.

Polity: Too much to swallow on the TPP, in reply to
The secrecy to me suggests nothing in this Pact benefits NZ so it must be crap. Therefore I disapprove. Our democracy is yet again under attack.
Yep.
A slight, very temporary reprieve. We must keep up the conversation, and keep asking.....

Interesting sector briefing (policy paper) from the providers’ body the NZDSN
http://www.nzdsn.org.nz/Blogs/477/60/important-nzdsn-sector-briefing-now-available/
I've been having a look at this document Hilary, especially the section "Complaints/Safeguarding".
• The 2013 Putting People First Report found that abuse of disabled people in residential services is more likely to occur when providers are isolated. When providers stay connected with one another they are more likely to share knowledge and resources.
A quick search last night of one member of NZDSN in MSM produced 11 articles about abuse and neglect in the care of that provider.
This is a major provider, and a long term NZDSN member.
Hardly isolated.
I am working alphabetically through NZDSN's member list...

This was part of what was lacking in Judi’s care experience.
...and the part of Judi's account of her care experience that could possibly cause the most upset to those In Control, would be her use of IV High Dose Vitamin C.
And the obvious benefit to her(other than having to self fund the therapy).
And the research that proves that in those patients with the type of brain tumour Judi had...taking IV High Dose Vitamin C markedly improves the efficacy of the radiotherapy. And in general, patients undergoing cancer treatments who are also having High Dose Vitamin C therapy, side effects are fewer and quality of life significantly improved.
Yet the Miserly of Health still does not fund this therapy. (to my knowledge)
Why?

Here's a MUCH more positive one from Ron...
(my you- tube history has no record of me watching the speech about Judi's awful experiences.)
