I had a conversation with a younger, quite conservative, woman, who was quite appalled by the original comments, but also quite appalled by boobquake.
I pointed out the attitude was hardly that unusual, and hearkened back to The Thread That Shall Not be Named.
I said something like "and that's why we do Tits Out For Ourselves Day".
She thought that it was "playing into the menz hands etc"
And so, I said "Look, here's what it comes down to for me. It's my body. I have licence over it. And if I choose to exercise that by getting the girls out on occasion, because I LIKE to, I shouldn't be made to feel that I am doing anything other than wearing a pretty dress. Not that I am 'inciting adultery', or being a hussy or whatevs. And you can choose to disagree, and that's your right. But the fact is, they're my boobs and so tomorrow, I am going to take them out for a nice lunch."
Although, if we do cause an earthquake, I am going to feel _bad_
(And Sasha, I could have said this over on the other post, but you could request to follow me on Twitter, I wouldn't mind :)

[Scuttling sound as runs under nearby foliage]
No need to run, dude. We know where to find you...

Oh, Sacha, I don't need to imagine.

Its the Tokoroa of the South Island?
A very popular place to be from. That's true, actually. I know a lot of people I like from Timaru, but I can't think of anyone i like in Timaru.
(Also, Emma, you'll note I refused the opportunity to make a cheap crack about people from Timaru. Despite your apparent insistence on offending Rangi girls....)

Oh, but if you are in Wellington, and are a fan, I hope someoen has already pointed you to this

Just to go against the prevailing mood: Meh.
I realise I am about to get pounced upon, but I've never loved Doctor Who. I remember it vaguely from childhood, with John Pertwee, and the scarf. And hte Daleks. But I don't remember it ever being scared.
And I was recently convinced to watch some of the Christopher Ecclestone episodes. And while they were...entertaining, I don't feel like I am missing out on much by not devoting myself to the series.
Although, because of my friends, I seem to spend A LOT of time discussing it.
Also:
I so wanted a long long scarf, but Mum wouldn't let me
I did offer to knit someone one recently, so your dream doesn't have to die.

My partner succumbed to the temptation of buying the Modern Motherhood issue and could be heard screaming from down at the zoo.
I decided, for reasons of my mental health, that it was possibly best for me not to read it.
Plus, I am not a mother, so it couldn't possibly apply to me, could it?
-
Agreed. I wanted to hear a lot more.
But Emma, we don't bitch. We constructively discuss and offer worthwhile advice and guidance. Right?

Related to Media7 last night this is worth a listen - Germaine Greer, among others, on The Second Sex. Which oddly, it is the sixtieth anniversary of.

Gemma, of course it is OK to have this conversation now. I simply meant that I hadn't intended to be a part of it.
I also find it problematic that there seems to be an undercurrent of if you aren't a hip hopper/brown teenage music video watcher/horror genre expert/sex worker or someone with direct knowledge thereof, you can't possibly contribute to these discussions with any fair authority...
I don't think that's what we're saying at all. I think Emma, and I, were simply trying to point out that taking the opinions of the people actually involved in the industry would be a good starting point when regulating it.
