Pet day at the school doesn't keep thousands of creative people in work, or underpin their industry. It also hasn't made NZ a case study in movie-related tourism.
There's sadly no longevity of that 'keep', the bird has flown the coop. Admitting it's a stopgap would be the first step to reconciliation with the reality that what has come to pass will ultimately necessitate an influx of creative people into the (movie) tourism industry.

Teaching also doesn't bring in hundreds of millions in foreign spending.
...and so said the Romans.
Surely this windfall, these hundreds of millions in foreign spending can now be used to help boost the teachers'/ radiographers' salaries?

I'm elated, angry, and saddened all at once. I feel like a traitor to myself both ways and back again. Happy that the film will stay. Unhappy about everything else. Is there a word for this?

So what you're saying is National have just won the 2011 election? I don't know how to take that.

he's more popular than The Beatles
blasphemy
He is one of the best creators of atmosphere and emotion around today,
He's like Terry Gilliam..but with the compromise. I found fuel for comparison between CGI fiestas The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and The Lovely Bones. One of these films hooked me into the experience, the other had me thinking "wow, how did they do that?". "Wow how did they do that?" does not necessarily a good movie make...and yet these days...we're a long way past Mean Streets.
His last good film - insofar as this person is concerned - was "Heavenly Creatures".
Bingo! His works have become increasingly laboured. I sense that as a hangover of LOTR he's come to over rely on labor and effort as substitute for raw inspiration. Nothing against the P-man, he's still got it, but how much he lets it shine through seems to be a matter for the committee.

I suspect this was not about possible job losses I suspect it was about unity for the good of the film Industry.
Hear hear. An actor friend who also works doing post prod at PRP has been split down the middle of late.

my idea of societies and Ted's idea of "Society" are a thousand thousand miles apart
I know, just pulling your leg. I'm quite keen on your vision.
Sofie. nice post expanding on JT's beaut sentiment, there's been a fair amount of heat expended in the last couple of weeks, I am glad to see the battle lines being smudged and erased.

Those kind of specialities, and that kind of society, may very well come back. Kaipurakau were much more esteemed, then-
Sounds a little like Ted Kaczynski, don't get me wrong, I like that about you.
